It was just me and my buddies. Telarion was gone, off to feed no doubt. No need to stick to me like glue in this place.

I was safe among the freaks and the mutants the city deemed dangerous. How ironic was that?

I had my head tipped back, swaying to the music with my eyes closed, when arms wrapped around my waist.

“Are you one of us or one of them?” Lips teased the shell of my ear and desire woke beneath my skin.

What the heck?

I looked down at the hands on my hips, then pulled away, breaking free and turning to face the speaker. Damn, he was tall. Broad too with midnight-blue skin and eyes like stars. Such pretty eyes…

“I can feel your hunger.” He inhaled. “Little New Blood.” His luscious mouth tipped in a smug smile.

I couldn’t help but grin back. I mean, he was perfect. I wanted him. I wanted to press myself to his chest, to run my hands over his shoulders and rake my fingers through his glittering cosmic silver hair. My core throbbed with need.

His tongue peeked out to touch his top lip. “Shall we find a shadowy corner to satisfy ourselves?”

I took a step toward him. An arm snaked around my waist, and I was hauled against a powerful chest. Lothos’s scent filled my head and the midnight man’s hold on me broke.

“Shit.” I blinked to clear the daze from my mind. I glared at the midnight man. “What the heck did you do?”

He arched a brow and aimed it above my head, his starlit eyes hardening like diamonds. “Lothos, what is the meaning of this?”

“She is mine,” Lothos said. “We have a contract.”

“You know that a contract means nothing, don’t you?”

“A nova prima contract does.”

“Oh? Is that right?” Midnight man’s gaze dropped to me, probing and insistent.

Lothos’s grip on me tightened. A warning, a prompt.

I could feel midnight man’s energy trying to get a grip on me, pushing against the barrier Lothos had cast over me.

Warning bells went off in my head.

This guy was dangerous.

I had no idea what a nova prima contract was, but it was clear Lothos was trying to save my ass…probably literally from this guy.

I lifted my chin. “Yeah, we have a nova prima, so no touchy touchy, understand?”

Midnight man sighed, his expression regretful. “Shame, she is ripe, and if my senses are correct, then you haven’t been claiming your worth, Lothos. How will you know if you don’t drink deep and—"

Lothos spun me to face him, cupped the back of my head, and claimed my mouth. My chest hitched, tugging upward toward his as he drew from me, siphoning my power into himself and leaving slick heat between my thighs.

He was feeding off me and I should have been horrified; instead, a mewl escaped my lips and my hands found his shoulders, fingers digging in, desperate for more. He broke the kiss, his molten gaze lingering on my face before he very deliberately disengaged to fix on the midnight man.

“I’m sorry.” Lothos’s tone was cool despite the heat simmering between us. “But we have business to complete.” He put his arm around me and led me away from the midnight man.

We skirted the dance floor and passed the bar, ducked into the corridor beyond, and then went through a door into a room built for sex.

It reeked of it, the leather chaise shiny from only recently being cleaned.

“Lothos, this is a satiation room.”

I’d heard of these, seen them, but never used one. All supernatural clubs had these areas: rooms, cubbies, booths, where consenting parties could sate their hunger for the carnal, or exchange power for feeding purposes.
