“No. We don’t.” I turned my back on him and hurried back toward the station. I could catch a taxi to Bentley from there and—

A hand hooked around my elbow and yanked me back. “You don’t want to leave, August. You want to come with me.”

Heat leaked from his fingers into my skin, spreading quickly to wipe away the panic and replace it with a warm, lethargic heat.

No. No. This wasn’t real.

But I was allowing him to walk me back to his car.

His lips brushed the shell of my ear. “You don’t want to fight me, August. You want me.”

Heat pooled between my thighs. I wanted him. Yes. I desperately wanted him.

He turned me to him and cupped my face, tipping it up to his. “So much power.” He traced my bottom lip with his thumb. “You, my dear, are a feast fit for kings.”

Why wasn’t he kissing me? Ineededhim to kiss me.

He smiled knowingly. “All in good time, August. You and I will become better acquainted soon enough. Lothos should have known better than to lie to me about your contract.”

Contract…It was supposed to protect me. Protect me from…from…

The beautiful man dipped his head.

He was about to kiss me.

I wanted that.

Didn’t I?

I wanted to be kissed by…by Telarion.

I wantedTelarion, not this guy.

The haze wrapped around my mind dissipated. I pulled back before his lips could touch mine. “No!”

He arched a brow. “Excuse me?”

“I said no. Get your fucking hands off me. Now.”

His grip on me tightened, anger coloring his regal features. “How are you resisting me?” he demanded.

I knew what he meant, but I allowed my smart mouth to reply. “Trust me, you’re not all that.”

“I’m a prince.”

“You’re also an asshole. Now, let. Me. Go.” I kneed him in the balls.

He blinked down at his crotch. His face crumpled in pain and he released me to grab his jewels. It would have been a comical moment of triumph if not for the slam of car doors and the thud of boots alerting me to his cavalry.

I backed away. “Stay away from me.”

“Get her,” the asshole ordered.

I made to run but faltered because the guards weren’t acting on command. Instead, they were frozen in place, their gazes fixed on something over my head.

My scalp prickled and awareness settled in my bones. I stepped back and a sigh ripped through me as Telarion’s hands settled on my shoulders, his long monster fingers curling gently against my skin.

“I don’t like it when people try and take my things,” Telarion said. “In fact, it makes me positively insane with rage.”
