Barely five minutespassed before there was a knock on the door. The man I’d seen with the naked Adonis entered the room.

He had a serious, studious look about him, which matched what Dax had told me. His eyes, like most of the other hellhounds, were a bright amber shade ringed in black. They were almost disconcerting to look at.

“Adienne, I’m Logan.” He smiled, and it lit up his face. “Curo said you drove all night?”

“Curo?”

“The guy who brought you here. You must be exhausted.”

And suddenly I was. “I’m hungry too.”

He made an O with his mouth. “Of course. Come, we’ll get you fed.”

I followed him out of the office and through the almost empty common room.

“Where’d everyone go?”

“Patrol, food, fuck, sleep,” he said casually. “The club house is never completely silent. There’s always someone about. Some kind of activity, but we have lull periods.”

“How long have you been a member?”

“A long time.”

We headed down a dimly lit corridor and into a brightly lit kitchen where a group of women were chowing down on chicken wings.

They looked up as I entered. I scanned their gorgeous faces, noting the various shades of honey, amber, and golden eyes. Hellhounds.

“Hey.” The one with the long dark hair lifted her chin with a smile. “You the president’s pup?”

“This is Adienne,” Logan said.

“Adi for short.” I pulled up a chair and joined them. “You are?”

The blonde looked slightly taken aback by my move, as if sitting with them was taboo or something. Maybe it was?

But the brunette smiled, her eyes lighting up. “I’m Riley, this is Jessie.” She jerked a thumb toward the blonde. “And Toni.”

Toni, with the messy chestnut curls, lifted a beer bottle to her lips.

God, I could do with a beer right now. “You got any more of those?”

Jessie and Riley exchanged glances.

“Why is she speaking to us?” Jessie said. “She’s not an initiate.”

“She’s Dax’s daughter,” Logan reminded them.

“So she gets to stay here, eat our food, and drink our beer without paying her way?”

I couldn’t be mad about her assumption. “Nope, I’ll be working with the club in a freelance capacity. Patrol with Riley.” I smiled at the brunette. “Which I assume is you, and enforcement with Curo.”

Toni choked on her beer and Jessie patted her on the back, her annoyance turning to amusement. “Please can I be there when you tell Curo?” Toni asked.

I looked up at Logan. “Will he have an issue working with me?”

“You’re an outsider,” Jessie said, as if that was reason enough.

“She’s Dax’s blood,” Riley reminded her. “Part hellhound.” She smiled. “Bet that was a shock?”
