I liked this woman.

I popped the cap off the beer. “Yep.” I took a swig.

“So he offloads her on us?” Jessie shook her head in disgust. “Patrol doesn’t need an amateur. We have enough on our plates without training a newb.”

Annoyance bit at me. “Whoa, hang on a second. You know nothing about me, my life, or what skills I have, so maybe shut the hell up with the judgment until you do.”

Jessie flinched, then her jaw clenched, eyes flashing.

“Calm the fuck down,” Logan snapped. His tone was filled with authority and edged in a growl.

Jessie ducked her head, chest heaving.

I looked up at him in surprise to find his glare trained on Jessie. “You know better than to question your president, Jess. Unless you don’t, in which case—”

“I’m sorry,” she bit out.

Logan’s shoulders relaxed on a sigh. The fire in his eyes melted. “Good. You’ll take her out on patrol tomorrow.” He put a plate of chicken wings in front of me. “In the meantime, get to know your new team member’s skills.” His phone buzzed and he cursed softly, walking away to answer it. “Yes…I know. I’ll be there soon.”

“That Chrissy?” Riley said.

Logan nodded. “We had a date.”

And he was missing it for me. “Go. I can find my room. General directions will do.”

“I can show her,” Jessie offered.

“East side. The room next to the VP,” Logan said.

The VP?

“I got it,” Jessie said.

Logan looked torn, his gaze lingering on me, probably worried he’d get into shit for leaving me.

I rolled my eyes. “I’m a big girl. I can fend for myself. Been doing it for years out there in the big wide world.”

“Okay, I’ll pick you up for breakfast tomorrow and show you around the club house. We’ll need to sort you a bike.”

“I don’t ride.”

There was a collective gasp at the table.

Geez, you’d think I’d said I liked to axe murder in my free time. “I’m supposed to partner up.”

“You can ride with me,” Riley said.

Toni looked up at Logan. “Why are you still here?”

He made a sound of exasperation and then backed away. “Tomorrow. Eight sharp.”

He left the room and silence reigned for several seconds. Jessie was the first to break it.

“So…you gonna fill us in on your skills, or what?”

“I’mglad you’re not gunning for the prez spot,” Jessie said as she led me up a flight of steps.
