“Don’t worry, precious, I won’t be snuggling up with you.” He canted his head and narrowed his eyes. “Unless you’d like me to?”
I arched a brow. “About as much as I’d like a hole in my head.”
He smirked. “Ah, the hard-to-get type. My favorite.”
“Nope.” I parked my ass on the edge of the bed. “Not hard to get, just not interested.” I smiled brightly at him. “Now get out of my room. Please.”
His eyes lit up and then a soft chuckle escaped his wicked mouth. “I have to admit, when Jessie told me Dax had stuck you on enforcement with me, I was pissed. I don’t have time to babysit a wallflower, but you’re not a wallflower, are you, Adi?” He padded toward the bed, and I tensed. “You’re not any kind of flower, are you?”
I tipped my chin up to look at him. “No, Curo, I’m a fucking cactus.”
His tongue peeked out to touch his top lip and my stomach did a stupid flutter thing. There was no denying his sex appeal. It oozed from his pores like some kind of pheromonal charisma.
But I didn’t do bad boys. Bad boys broke your heart and left you with mascara-stained cheeks and a need to eat dirty fries and watch slasher movies.
Yeah, I was totally having a flashback.
His beautiful, eerie eyes narrowed as he raked me over. “A necro hellhound. How could you not know?”
“Why would I?”
“Your hellhound abilities.”
“You mean like being able to see and communicate with the dead? Gee, let me think.” I tapped my chin. “I guess because those are things necromancers can do regardless.”
He frowned. “So no heat?” He lightly touched my cheek, and I slapped his hand away, earning myself a chuckle. “No fiery shifting?”
“No.” I gave an exaggerated faux yawn. “Tired now. Bye.”
I didn’t like the way my body was reacting to his proximity, stomach all fluttery and tight, pulse all skippy. His hotness was having a physiological effect even though my brain rebelled around his I-love-myself attitude.
He backed away, thank God.
“Yeah, you best get some rest, you’ll need it.” He ambled over to the door. “Sleep tight, little necro hound.”
He left, closing the door behind him, and I sagged, the exhaustion of the day finally slamming into me.
A gust of cold air tickled the back of my neck. Movement at the window.
I jumped off the bed as a huge, dark shape crashed into the room.
It was a man.
A strange naked man crouched by the window.
I opened my mouth to scream, but he chose that moment to look up at me with startling green eyes.
Familiar eyes.
I snapped my mouth closed. It couldn’t be…could it?
“Adi…” the man said with Fin’s voice. “Something’s wrong.”
His eyes fluttered closed, and he passed out.
Oh shit.
