“He touched her. He tried to—”

“I know, and he’ll pay for it. Trust me.”

I turn away from the broken, battered body of the hellhound I now recognize as Rafe. One of the younger initiates. Not my choice.

“There was a complaint about Rafe a month ago,” Logan says. “One of the girls said he hurt her, but then she retracted her complaint.”

“Find her. I want to speak to her and set up a tribunal.” I want Rafe out.

I was so angry I could scream. I downed the whiskey and held the glass out for another shot.

“Just as well I’m the one driving tonight,” Riley said.

“That bastard. What the fuck?”

“They’ve called a tribunal to decide if he’s guilty,” Riley said.

“He fucking attacked me. Of course he’s guilty.”

“It’s protocol,” Jessie said.

I exhaled. “They need to kick him out.”

“It’s blood in, blood out,” Riley said. “Once you’re in the syndicate, the only way out is death.”

“Good.” I had no sympathy for the bastard. I downed the second glass of whiskey.

“I’m sorry this happened,” Jessie said. “This isn’t what Grave Spirits is about. The groupies are here of their own will. They’re well looked after and cared for. They’re not to be abused. It’s one of the club rules.”

“Dax is gonna blow a gasket,” Toni said.

“Forget Dax, did you see Spectre?” Jessie said. “All bloody and seething.” She eyed me up. “Dax must have asked him to watch out for you. He takes his responsibilities seriously. As VP, any bad shit that happens while Dax is away falls on him.”

“Dax is away?”

“Syndicate business, he’ll be back later tonight,” Riley said.

“Can we just….go. I need to do something active.” I rubbed my temples. “What if they don’t find him guilty, though? No one was there. It’s my word against his. He could say anything…” My stomach churned.

Toni’s gaze dropped to my sweater and her jaw tightened. “You might want to change. We leave in thirty.”

I looked down to see a tear where the sleeve hung from the seams. “I loved this sweater.”

“I can fix it.” Jessie smiled.

“Am I off your shit list then?”

She rolled her eyes. “Honey, you were never on it. I was just testing you. You passed.”

“Hoorah for me,” I said dryly.

Jessie grinned. “See, that’s why she passed.”

“In that case, thanks. I’ll take you up on the sweater fix.” I stood and winced. My ribs were sore where he’d crushed me to him. “I need to check on Fin.”
