“I’ve got her, Spec,” Curo said again.
He nodded once, then morphed into his beast form and bounded away.
The pulsing energy holding me in its thrall snapped. I sagged. “What…what happened?”
A long beat of silence greeted my question before someone answered.
“Spectre gave you some of his mystical energy,” Logan said. “It’ll tide you over until your body replaces its own.”
“We need to go after these vamps,” Riley said. “Jessie’s called in backup.”
“What about the ghosts?” I shook my head. “There could be more. I need to come with you.”
“No!” the three women said in unison.
I winced. “Way to make a girl feel wanted.”
“You know that’s not why,” Riley said softly. “You saved our asses tonight, and now it’s our turn to keep you safe.”
“If there are more of those ghosts, then we’ll retreat and form a new plan,” Toni said. “You need to get back and rest.”
“Come on.” Curo led me to his bike. When we got there, he turned me to face him. “You’ll have to sit in front, straddle me, and hold on.”
To make sure I didn’t fall off. Made sense. “I thought you didn’t want to be near me?”
His expression looked pained. “You have no idea, Adi.” He lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist. The position reactivated the throb between my thighs, a spot that was now pressed to him.
He sucked in a sharp breath. “Fuck this shit.”
He hated this. I should have gone with one of the others, but they were already off, bikes roaring into the distance.
He climbed onto the bike with me clinging to his body. “Hold on.”
I wrapped my arms around his chest and laid my head on his shoulder. Drake roared to life, vibrations shooting through Curo’s body into mine and gathering at our groins.
I bit down on my lower lip and squeezed my eyes shut. This ride needed to be over. And soon, because the heat Spectre had kindled to life was still simmering inside me. There was no way this was normal. No way it was just him lending me his mystical energy.
They were all hiding something from me, and I was going to find out just what it was.

CURO
By the time we get back to the club residences I’m ready to combust. Whatever chain reaction Spectre has started in Adi’s body has her rubbing against me like a cat in heat, which, in retrospect, she is.
She needs Spectre. She needs to solidify the mating bond.
I bring the bike to a halt at the back of the garage, shadows closing in around us, and curse as her lips find my neck. Her tight, hot ass is in my hands. I squeeze before I can stop myself.
Fuck, I want her so bad. I could take her now, in the shadows, on the bike, drive myself into her so deep she forgets all about Spectre and the fucking mating bond. She licks me and nips at me. I should push her away; instead, I slide my hand up her top and cup her breast.
“Yes, please. Oh, God.”
Her wanton mouth skims my jaw, searching for my mouth. I want to give it to her. To kiss all traces of Spectre from her.
You know what to do, Curo, Drake says in my head.
Fucknuts. I haul ass off my bike, taking her with me, and then shove her away. Her boots hit the earth and she comes at me again.
