He shrugged. “I never shirk from a challenge.”

I shoved him off, annoyance and sexual frustration mingling inside me to make a cocktail of unreasonable Adi. “You…you…”

“Sexy, handsome beast?” he offered.

I glared at him for long seconds, my frustration melting. I sighed. “Yes, Curo, you are.”

And I needed to shield my heart before he stole the damned thing.

CHAPTERTWENTY-ONE

I’d missed my breakfast latte with Logan this morning to go shopping with the girls, and that, coupled with my impromptu work date with Curo, meant I hadn’t seen him all day.

Which felt weird.

I needed to get dressed for my night out, but I had an hour to kill, so I went in search of Logan, a travel mug filled with a latte in hand.

I knocked on the office door.

“Come in,” Dax called out.

I popped my head in to find him with Wendall and Hex, two of the enforcement guys.

“Adi.” His eyes lit up.

I’d been pissed at him about Spectre for a few days but I couldn’t ignore the wisdom in his decision. I couldn’t lie and say I’d have been able to steer clear of Spectre if he’d been here. It pissed me off that Dax had made the call without talking to me but not enough to stop talking to him.

“Hey.” I smiled. “I’m looking for Logan.”

Dax returned the smile. “I needed the office so he’s working from his room today.”

“Thanks.” I made to retreat.

“Adi?”

“Hmmm?”

“You have a good time tonight, sweetheart.”

Sweetheart. The endearment gave me the warm fuzzies. “Thank you.”

I headed up to Logan’s room on the third floor, last door on the right. I knew that because I’d knocked for him a few times. I’d never been invited inside, though. We’d always gone down to the office.

I knocked and waited.

“Come in.”

“Hello?” I peered inside to find Logan at his desk, hair ruffled, chest bare, wearing only PJ bottoms.

“Adi.” He reached for the shirt slung on the back of his chair.

“Hey, don’t bother to get dolled up on my account. I get it. Working from ‘home’ allows certain privileges.”

He chuckled and made to put on the tee. I caught an eyeful of the incredible ink that covered his left side and climbed over his chest.

“Wow, that’s some tattoo. Can I see?”

He paused. “Sure.” He stood and lowered his arms.
