Spectre, whom I hadn’t seen in over two weeks and wasn’t allowed to be near.
Logan gripped my hip, fingers flexing, before he slid one hand up my side and across my back to cup my nape. It was a possessive, claiming move, and it had the desired effect of giving me a stomach flip and making my neck muscles relax so I tipped my head back. My cheek grazed his jaw where he leaned into me, and I was very aware of how close our mouths were. A slight shift to the right and I’d be touching his lips with mine.
The temptation was a pulsing heat between us.
I pulled away with a smile of regret. He sighed and pulled me in for a hug, kissing the top of my head before releasing me.
I led the way back to the bar where Chrissy was now standing with Toni and the others.
She turned as we approached, and her smile slipped a fraction before she fixed it back in place.
“Babe, what are you doing here?” She placed her palm on Logan’s chest and peered up at him, fluttering her fake lashes.
“I thought I’d pop by and grab a dance with my betrothed.” Logan’s smile didn’t reach his eyes.
“Oh, of course. One dance, then you better get back to work.” She wagged her finger at him. “Girls’ night is sacred.” She giggled.
“Didn’t you just say you had a headache and were leaving?” Toni said.
Chrissy rolled her eyes. “I can handle one more dance.”
Logan frowned. “If you’re feeling unwell, we should go.”
She looked away for a brief moment before nodding. “Yes. Okay. You can take me home.”
He cupped her shoulders. “Your folks are away. You’ll stay with me so I can take care of you.”
My chest squeezed. Logan was a genuinely sweet guy, but Chrissy… Chrissy was a liar, because the guy she’d gone off with earlier was standing by the exit watching us, and I had no doubt her headache was an excuse to leave with him.
The question was, should I say something?
CHAPTERTWENTY-THREE
“It sounds like Ben,” Toni said. “He works for her parents as a landscape gardener. He’s a shifter.”
“Fuck.” Riley stared at me in the mirror. “Maybe youshouldhave said something.”
I stifled a groan. “We don’t know she’s cheating.”
“Yeah, we do,” Jessie said. “Her hair was all over the place when she joined us. I mentioned it and she straightened it up, but now that I think about it, it was definitely make-out head.”
Riley turned away from the mirror so that she was facing me with the sink behind her. “I saw you two on the dance floor.”
I groaned again and covered my face. “I didn’t do anything.”
“But you wanted to.”
“Doesn’t matter what I want.” I looked up. “I’m not allowed to have it.” I ran my fingers through my hair and then shook it out. “I have a conduit to wait for.”
“That actually sucks shifter balls,” Toni said. “You should be able to be with Spectre, and if you want, you should have Logan too.”
I stared at her in confusion. “I’m mated to Spectre. I shouldn’t bewantinganyone else. I’m obviously a complete hussy.”
The women exchanged glances before Toni continued. “You really don’t know anything about your hellhound nature, do you?”
“Nope.”
“Some female hounds take more than one mate,” Toni said. “Some of us have high heat cycles and one mate isn’t enough. In those cases, the fated mate usually agrees to his mate taking one or two extra males to her bed.”
