He narrowed his eyes. “I’ve been held back from a spot on the alpha team because of you.”

“Because of me? No. You got punished for harassing a cadet.”

“Cadet? You’re no cadet. You’re a halfblood.”

“The two are not mutually exclusive.”

“Huh?”

“She means you can be both,” bird boy said.

“Shut up Quaid,” Jay snapped. “I know what she means.”

Like hell, he did. But I wasn’t about to argue with him. I recognized barely restrained violence when I felt it. He wanted a reason to snap and lose control. Any reason to whale on me.

I wasn’t about to give him the excuse he needed. “Look, I just want to be left alone to train and get on with the program. If I’m as incompetent as you think, then I’ll be out of here in a few weeks.”

“She’s got a point,” Quaid said.

“No,” Jay said. “She hasn’t got a point. What she has, is Serath’s dick in her mouth.”

My stomach dropped.

“They’re fucking,” he continued with a sneer. “They must be. The way he looked at her in the coffee shop.”

My cheeks heated. “What the hell?”

“Admit it. He’s fucking you, isn’t he?“ He advanced into my personal space. “You’re giving him your cunt for a place here on the program.”

I reacted before I could think it through and punched him in the mouth.

His head bobbed back, the blow taking him by surprise. There was a split second ofwhat the fuck, as he realized what had just happened then his eyes glowed green and his body morphed into goyle form.

“Jay, no!” Quaid made a grab for his buddy, but Jay palm punched him in the chest and came at me.

I threw my towel in his face, and ducked past him, running for the door, but my ankle was still sore, I wasn’t fast enough.

He grabbed me by the nape and threw me across the room like a rag doll. I smashed into the bar, stone skin activating in time to prevent major injury then landed in a crouch.

“Jay, stop it!” Quaid yelled. “They’ll expel you for this.”

“I’m already fucked,” Jay growled. “My record tarnished, and all because of her.” The final word ended on a growl as he tucked in his chin and rushed me again.

I grabbed the bar and used it to swing myself up and over his head, hitting the mat in a roll and coming up in a sprint for the exit.

“Get her!” Jay roared.

I slammed into a solid mass of muscle. Hands grabbed hold of my upper arms and held me still.

My head whipped up, and I locked gazes with Curi.

He stared at me in confusion.

“Mason. Good timing,” Jay said from inside the room. “Bring her inside. Shut the door. We can teach the bitch a lesson. You know she doesn’t belong here as a cadet, but we can teach her where she does belong.”

Ice filled my veins and panic gripped my lungs in a vise, because there was no doubt in my mind what Jay was insinuating.

Mason’s grip on me tightened. No. He wouldn’t, would he?
