Something was off with her, had been for a while, and I doubt anyone had tried to help her. But that was going to change. There had to be a way to free her to cross over before she lost herself completely, and I knew just the witch to ask.

First thing tomorrow.

But for now…

I drew the mobile phone out of its hiding place and climbed into bed.

Serath answered on the third ring. “Hello, Cameron.”

His voice sent tingles down my neck, I snuggled down under the duvet, not caring that my wet hair was making the pillow damp. “How’s your day been?”

“Busy. You?”

“Not busy.” There was no way I was telling him about the attack on me in the gym. If we were going to keep our connection a secret, then he couldn’t be seen coming to my rescue all the time. Jay had noticed something between us in the coffee shop, even though I’d barely looked Serath’s way. We had to be careful.

“You’re thinking hard,” he said. “Is everything all right?” His tone sharpened as he slipped into alert mode. “Did something happen today?”

“I’m fine. Just wondering where you’ll be taking me on my date tonight.”

He chuckled softly. “Actually, I have something for you. Go to your window and look on the ledge.”

Wait, what? I climbed out of bed and padded to the window. The drapes were open, and the night looked in at me, starry, bright and beautiful. A package lay neatly on the ledge.

“Do you see the package?” he asked.

“What is it?”

“That’s for you to find out.”

I loved the teasing note in his tone.

“Okay, one minute, I need to put you down.”

“No. Take me with you.”

I climbed out onto the ledge where cool air kissed my skin and ran its fingers through my damp hair, sending a delicious chill over me.

“You’re beautiful,” Serath said.

My heart forgot to beat for a moment. “You can see me?”

“I can.”

“Where are you?” I scanned the night, peering at the nearest landing posts, but there was no one there. “This isn’t fair.”

“I didn’t say I played fair, Cameron. Open the package.”

I tucked the phone between shoulder and ear then picked up the neatly wrapped package. I wanted to tear it open but took my time. He was watching me. I wanted that. Wanted his gaze on me.

“So careful,” he said in my ear. “So very meticulous, when I know that all you want to do is tear it off.” His final words had a gruff edge and the vibration shot straight between my legs.

I pressed my thighs together and swallowed against a suddenly dry throat.

What was with him tonight? Last night he’d been so…restrained, but tonight…

The paper fell away to reveal a crimson silk slip.

“Put it on for me, Cameron. Put it on then come back to the ledge so I can see it.”
