I haven’t had a mobile phone since I entered Morningstar, and it feels strange holding it now. But I hit number one and wait as it rings. There’s a soft snick.

“Emmit, did you get there?” Quinn asks. The sound of her voice brings a rush of memories. My chest tightens, and it takes a moment for me to find my voice.

“Hey, Quinn. It’s Nyx.”

Silence fills the line for several beats. “Nyx? Hey…” Her voice is thick with emotion. “You’re there.” Her tone sharpens. “I fucking knew it!”

“Calm down, Quinn,” a male voice soothes in the background. It sounds like Jax. “We agreed?—”

“No,” Quinn huffs. “You all agreed.Iwanted to go. I made a vow and?—”

“You’re keeping it by sending your mates to help.” I give her a beat to calm down, then continue. “Bryce and Emmit are extensions of you now, and you of them.”

Across from me, both Bryce and Emmit relax, shoulders dropping.

“If you’d come in your condition and something happened…anythingto harm your child, none of us would ever forgive ourselves, least of all you, and you know that. You have a duty to your unborn baby.”

She sniffs. “I hate that I can’t be there. That I can’t see you both. Protect you both.”

“We’ve got this,” Bryce says. “You hear me, Quinn? We won’t allow any harm to come to Orina.”

“Do we know what we’re up against yet?” she asks.

I put the phone on speaker. “Not yet. All we know is that there’s a breach. There are wards up around Dracul. I’ll do my best to update you as soon as we have answers.”

“Orina called me, you know. A week or so ago, and she sounded happy. Confused but happy, and now…What could have changed?”

I glance at the wards at our back. “No idea. But whatever it is, we’ll fix it. Get some rest, and don’t worry. Like Bryce said, we’ve got this.”

I end the call and hand the phone back to Emmit, who nods, hard gaze softening further in what I take to be approval.

Bryce looks over my head at the wards that block us off from Dracul. “How do we get in?”

“We need a white wing,” Sin says. “We’re waiting on a response from them.”

“I don’t like waiting,” Emmit growls before striding down the road toward a group of guards. Bryce follows him.

Sin arches a brow my way. “Maybe a little strong-arming will do the trick? You know, like I suggested earlier.”

“I doubt it, but it’ll sure be fun to watch.”

I hurry after the two Faoladh bearing down on the guards and bite back a laugh at the sight of their faces.

Yep, this will be fun.

Chapter 26

ORINA

Ezekiel stood on the balcony of our vista watching the stars dance around the moon. The air bit at my skin as I joined him, and I wrapped my arms around myself to ward off the chill.

“I wasn’t sure if you’d join me,” Ezekiel said.

“Why wouldn’t I? This is our place when we dream.”

“I wasn’t sure you’d be dreaming today. Did you speak to Matthew and get more blood?”

Shit. “I forgot, but I’ll get on it. I promise.” I glanced up at the night sky. It was daytime in the waking world, and usually it would be daytime in the vista also. “Ezekiel, are you okay?”
