She shivers. “We’re really doing this. You and me,” she whispers into my ear while running a hand through my hair.

“We are.”

A quiet moment passes before I hear her beautiful voice again. “I’m all yours.”

“God, hearing you say that...”

Before I can finish, she pulls me to her mouth and kisses me until I can’t breathe or think. We spend the rest of the morning tangled in bed together without exchanging another word.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Harper

I gaze around the nearly finished living room. “Wow.”

Lewis walks up from behind me and wraps me in a hug. He nuzzles my neck, making me shiver and moan at the same time. “You keep saying that.”

“I just still can’t get over how well everything turned out. I love it.”

I twist my face to the side, capturing his mouth in a kiss before taking in the space once more. The hardwood floor, the walls painted the perfect shade of green-gray, the Mediterranean tile of the fireplace finally stripped free of white paint, the brass chandelier hanging in the entryway.

“I thinkApongBernie andApongVivian would have loved it too,” I whisper, almost to myself.

Lewis squeezes me tight. “I know they would have.”

I spin around so I can hug him. “And I still can’t get over the fact that you did all this.”

“Told you I was that good.”

I laugh and try to twist out of his embrace, but his hold on me tightens before he leans down and kisses my neck. A mewling sound escapes from my mouth while I savor the heat of his breath, the softness of his lips.

“You helped too, you know,” he growls against my skin. “And now we can just focus on the two of us. We can do whatever we want.”

“What did you have in mind?” I murmur.

“Other than spending every day in bed with you until I leave for LA, I hadn’t planned much else.”

“Sounds perfect to me.”

Just the thought of Lewis heading back to LA next week sends knots to my stomach. I’m going to miss him so much. He’s going to be insanely busy the moment he steps foot there. His agent called the other day to update him on what’s been happening since he’s been gone, and it looks like his absence accomplished exactly what he hoped: people are clamoring for a chance to meet with Lewis to discuss possible roles. He’s gotten offers for more serious work, which he’s pumped about. On top of that, media outlets have been blowing up his agent’s phone for a chance to interview Lewis about why he left his old show, but he’s made it clear he’s not interested in talking—not without permission from the crew members who were targets of the harassment.

Despite everything that’s on his docket, we have a plan. He’s flying back to visit in two weeks to see me for the weekend, and then two weeks after that, I’m going to fly to LA and see him.

He leads me by the hand to the kitchen and tells me to sit on the bar stool. I take in the visual of my shirtless boyfriend cracking eggs at the stove as he whips up breakfast for me. I still can’t believe I landed this guy. Never in a million years did I think I’d ever find myself in the healthiest, most exciting relationship of my life with a sexy-as-hell TV star.

“I can’t wait to show you my favorite breakfast place in LA,” Lewis says while divvying up the scrambled eggs between two plates.

“They don’t just serve avocado toast, do they?” I tease.

He mock glares at me. “Just for that little quip, I’m greeting you with avocado toast when you land at LAX.”

I burst out laughing. He plops on the stool next to me, and we dig into the most delicious eggs at the kitchen island, still clad in our pajamas. Between bites I glance over at him and contemplate pinching myself.

So, so perfect.

“Thank you,” I say, my tone soft and shaky. “For everything.”

Emotion flashes behind those mesmerizing hazel eyes. “Thank you, Harper. For letting me stay with you. For giving me a chance.”
