I clink my glass against his. I take a sip and moan. “Oh my god, that’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever tasted.”
“Told you it was good.”
I’m about to take another sip when someone bumps me from behind. I spin around to see two flushed-faced college-age girls staring at me, wide-eyed.
“We’re so sorry,” she says sweetly. “It’s these damn shoes.” She kicks up her leg to reveal a killer stiletto.
I smile and shake my head. “It’s okay. I’ve been there. That’s why I stick to these.” I kick up my sneaker.
She chuckles and glances past me. A second later her eyes go wide. “Oh my god.”
Her friend gasps. “Holy shit, are you Gage Grant? That hot guy on TikTok who cooks?”
I turn around to Gage. He clears his throat and offers a tight smile. “That’s me.”
The two college girls glance at each other and squeal, then scurry over to him.
“You don’t mind if we take a selfie with you, do you?” Stiletto girl pulls out her phone and leans close to Gage before he even has time to answer.
“Hey, would it be okay if you FaceTime our friend Brianna?” the other girl asks. Just like her friend, she doesn’t wait for Gage to answer before running up to him and pulling out her phone. “You’re her celebrity crush.” She glances up at him and licks her lips. “And you’re my hall pass.”
My jaw drops as she waggles her eyebrows at him and moves even closer to him.
Gage frowns and leans back, but there’s nowhere for him to go. He’s flanked on either side by two aggressive women who don’t seem to notice or care that they’re making him uncomfortable.
“Uh, actually,” Gage mumbles, “I’m busy at the moment with my friend, and I don’t really—”
“Aww, come on!” Stiletto girl runs her hand on his chest. “We’re huge fans of yours. We watch your TikTok every day, since the very beginning. We’ve always thought you were so sexy.”
“Yeah, can you show your abs? My friend would die if I sent her a picture of your abs.”
Gage frowns. “That’s not something I’m interested in doing.”
Hall pass girl pouts at him. “Come on, one pic of those gorgeous abs!”
Gage pulls away from her. “Look, I appreciate your support, but I’d like to just have a quiet night with my friend.”
“God, you don’t have to be a dick about it,” hall pass girl mutters.
And that’s when something inside of me snaps. I’ve watched in disbelief as these two strangers invade my friend’s space and violate his boundaries. It stops now.
“Hey,” I bark, jumping off my stool. Hall pass and stiletto girl whip their heads at me. “Both of you stop touching him right now.”
Their eyes go wide as they stumble back.
“I don’t care how sexy his TikTok is, that doesn’t give you the right to grope him. That’s so fucked up. Can’t you see how uncomfortable you’re making him?”
Both of their faces turn beet red. They back away from him and exchange an embarrassed glance.
“He told you ‘no’ multiple times. He’s clearly not interested. Leave him alone.”
They stumble away, muttering apologies. It’s not till then that I realize just how quickly my heart is beating.
I turn to Gage and gently touch his arm. “Are you okay?”
He doesn’t answer me right away. He’s dazed as he looks at me, like he’s trying to make sense of what I’m saying. I start to second-guess what I just did. Maybe I crossed the line by lashing out on his behalf.
“Yeah. I’m good.”
