I tug a hand through my hair. Fuck, I’m screwing this up so bad.

“No, that’s not…Maya, I lied, okay? I lied to Xander when he asked me about you because I didn’t know if you liked me back and I wanted to save face.”

She frowns like she’s not quite sure she believes me.

“But now, I don’t give a shit about saving face or looking cool or any of that. So I’m gonna lay it all out there. I’ve liked you this whole time, Maya. And the thought of you being with someone else makes me wanna puke.”

A long moment of silence passes. And then she lets out a laugh that doesn’t sound happy at all. Just exasperated and annoyed. And that’s when I know I fucked this all up.

Chapter21

Maya

Istand there and look at Theo, in utter disbelief. Is he serious right now?

He thinks he can just pull a reverse Uno-card—he thinks he can take back everything he said and did andthatwill make me fall for him?

Irritation and anger collide inside of me. Yeah, I’ve got feelings for Theo. And yeah, I’ll even admit that it’s satisfying to finally hear him admit how he feels about me. But how can I trust what he says when it seems like his feelings are changing at the drop of a hat?

When I blink my eyelids are heavy. I’m exhausted and exasperated after this mind-fuck of a day.

I spin around and head up the staircase to the loft.

“Where are you going?” Theo asks.

“To bed. It’s late and I’m too exhausted to keep talking about this. We’re putting a pin in this discussion for the rest of tonight.”

My legs feel like cement as I trudge up the steps. It’s like my body is finally feeling the effects of the emotional rollercoaster these past few days have been.

I’m unzipping my jeans and crawling into bed when I see Theo make his way to the other side.

“What the hell are you doing?” I yelp.

He frowns at me. “What does it look like I’m doing? You said you’re going to bed, so I’m going to bed too.”

My jaw hangs open for a solid three seconds. He can’t be this ballsy…or stupid.

“Theo, you’ve lost your mind if you think that we’re going to sleep in the same bed together.”

He tilts his head at me like I’m ridiculous for having a problem with this.

“Maya, there’s only one bed in this place.”

I blink at him. “And?”

His eyebrows crash together. “And I’d like to get a good night’s sleep too. I’m exhausted.”

I let out a laugh of pure disbelief. “Then go sleep on the couch.”

This time he’s the one laughing. He shakes his head. “No way can I fit on that weird sectional thing. I’m a foot taller than that longest part of it.”

I stand there and stare at him. “You’re seriously suggesting that we sleep in the same bed together?”

“Yeah.” I almost laugh at his deadpan delivery. He’s acting like this is the most logical thing in the whole world for the two of us to share a bed.

I shake my head. “No way in hell.”

This time when he frowns at me, he looks irritated. “Then you go sleep on the couch.”
