Her lips part, and her sparkling hazel eyes widen. “Y-You love me?”

I nod. She’s quiet for a long moment. Nerves kick up inside of me. I know it’s too soon to tell her. I know she’s probably freaking out. But I can’t hold it in anymore.

I clear my throat. “I’ve been in love twice in my life. Once was with Nicole, and after I lost her, I never thought I’d love again.”

I swallow hard, my nerves going haywire, hoping I’m making sense.

“But then I met you, and I couldn’t get you out of my head,” I say. “I got to know you, and I fell so damn hard for you, Abby.”

I let out a shaky breath. “You don’t have to say it back. I know it’s probably really jarring to hear me say all that. We’ve only been officially a couple for less than a month, but?—”

She kisses me, cutting me off.

“I love you too,” she says against my mouth.

Chapter 54

Gavin

My head spins. I can’t believe it. Abby loves me.

When we break our kiss, we rest our foreheads together, both of us panting. I lean back and look at those beautiful hazel eyes.

“You love me?” I rasp.

“Of course I love you, Gavin. You are the most incredible man I’ve ever met in my life. You’re so respectful and kind and thoughtful and giving. You always stand up for what’s right, no matter what. You go out of your way to make me feel special. I’ve never felt this cherished—this doted on.” Emotion flashes in her gaze. “You’re amazing with Emma. I can tell you care about her so much.”

It feels like my chest is caving in hearing her say all that.

I kiss her slow and teasing, until she’s clawing at my shirt and whimpering in my mouth.

“Do you know what I love about you, sweetness?” I say between kisses.

She smiles. “What?”

“Everything. Every single thing.”

Her smile widens. Joy sparks in her eyes.

“I love the way you blush when I tell you how pretty you are. I love how you bite your bottom lip when you’re nervous and excited. I love that you don’t care about hockey, but you go to Bashers games to cheer me on.”

“Of course I’d cheer you on. You’re my favorite part of the team.”

I swipe a chunk of her blonde hair out of her face. “I love how sweet and loving you are to everyone. How patient you are. I love the way your eyes light up when you see Emma.”

I softly thumb her bottom lip. “And I love that, out of all the guys in the world, you chose me. I feel like the luckiest man on the planet to get to love you, Abby.”

Her breath catches, and she presses her palm against the middle of my chest, right over my heart.

“Take me to your bed and make love to me, Gavin.”

A minute later, Abby’s lying on my bed and I’m undressing her. I strip off my clothes, then move to open the drawer of my side table, but she stops me.

“We don’t have to use a condom. If you don’t want to, I mean,” she says. “I’m the pill. I had an STD test the last time I was with someone, which was a few years ago. I haven’t been with anyone since. You’re the only one.”

I climb on the bed, lean down to her, and capture her mouth in mine.

“My last STD test came back clean. That was a year and a half ago. I haven’t been with anyone since,” I say.
