Chapter Eight

Blix rolled off Rand’s chest and out of his arms. She had no idea what time it was, but it was bright outside the windows and the fire had died down. It was frigid beyond the warmth of the bed, but she had a feeling they’d slept most of the day away.

He was still asleep. Soundly. His breath even and deep.

He looked young and carefree this way. He’d looked it some when she’d first arrived and throughout the evening. But in sleep, he looked peaceful and at ease.

What would the North Pole be like without him? She hadn’t wanted to think about it and she hadn’t wanted to sit idle. That wasn’t her way.

Now, though… What would the North Pole be like for her parents and her friends, without her? What was Pixie thinking? Or Maria? Her parents? Were they all worried? They had to know she was gone, especially Pixie since Blix wasn’t at the bakery.

And what would happen toWishes Bakery? No one could make the cookies that she did. What if she couldn’t go back? What if she wasn’t allowed to bake anymore? What if —”

“You’re thinking so hard, little elf. What’s wrong?”

She glanced down at Rand. She hadn’t realized he was awake. “I’m worried about what I’ve done.”

His hand slid up her spine and his warmth seeped under her skin, comforting her. “You showing up here wasn’t of your own doing. I’m sure it can be reversed. I don’t know how, exactly, but I’m sure it can.”

“Unless you count the magic I put into the cookies.”

“Unless,” he agreed. “But you did it for a good reason. Surely, my father will see that.”

“I don’t want to leave here, though, either.”

“You can’t be in two places at the same time.”

“I know.” She pulled her legs up to lay her head on her knees. Rand tugged her back down into his arms and she snuggled against his heat.

“Feeling sad about it won’t change anything right now. I don’t know how long we have until someone shows up to explain this to us. But until that happens…” He kissed the tip of her nose. “We’re going to make the best of things.”

“We are?”

“We are. I don’t like seeing you with dim eyes.”

“What do you suggest?”

“Well…” He let the word hang in the air and pointed down his body. Blix turned her head in the direction of his finger and stifled a giggle.

“Rand…?”

“Yeah?”

“There’s something wrong with the sheet.”

“I would agree. There is.”

“It’s pointed north.”

“Or at least, up.”

“What are we doing to do about it?”

He nudged her head back around and found her mouth with a long, slow kiss. He pulled her over his body and arranged her legs across his hips. “I can think of a few things. One, in particular.”

Blix moaned and slid until she felt the head of his cock pressing against her entrance. “You mean, this?”

“Oh yes, little elf. I mean exactly…that.” He lifted and pushed the rest of the way inside her. She should be stiff and sore from their play last night, but there was nothing more than sharp pleasure.
