“Like a big cat?”

“Yeah. He’s in the Mayor’s employ. Or was. I don’t know what happened to him since all this went down.”

“Well fuckin’ A, Wolf,” Michael ground out. “That’s just fuckin’ great.”

“He knew about the fire,” Luke continued, as though Michael hadn’t had an outburst. “That’s why I showed up when I did.”

“Good or bad, this Roan?” Gus asked.

“I haven’t figured that out yet.”

“Well, shit… Ain’t that just grand?”

Luke rounded on Michael. “Look, I don’t know his story and I don’t know where he is, so get off my damn back with the attitude.”

“They why did you tell us?”

“Because he may show up. Last I saw him, we were halfway between Knoxville and Dandridge. That’s where he left me after he told me about the fire.”

“He say why they were moving into the business of property destruction?”

“To scramble the shifters. Make them vulnerable. Thought if they could get them outside, they’d be easier targets.”

“What a bunch of dumb fucks.”

“I also saw the man that the Mayor shot. They had a rough tree stand near that lake. Had a clear shot of the house, but unless anyone went looking for their set up, you wouldn’t even know it was there. I followed the gun shot.”

“You’re lucky you weren’t hurt. Or seen.”

“Nothing is a guarantee anymore.”

Gus nodded in agreement. “Thanks for the heads up.”

“My pack and I will watch the edges of the Dragon. You’ll get out safe.”

“You stay that way, too, Wolf.”

“Says the bear that needed my help.”

“Hopefully, we’ll see you again soon.”

“Yeah.”

“Look, y’all… It’s been a right nice adventure, but I’d like to get back home.”

“Aww… Mikey… Aren’t you sad to leave me?”

Michael’s only reply was a not so subtle flip of his middle finger. Luke laughed and replied in kind. To Gus, he said, “Holler if you need anything.”

“Will do,” he finally said.

Gus was more than a little reluctant to walk away, but knew it was for the best. There was danger lurking and when it regrouped, he wanted to make sure Bex was long gone and safe.

Luke and the two pack mates who always flanked him, slowly drifted out of sight. Gus thought he might wait to see Bex, to say good-bye to her, but wasn’t too surprised that he didn’t. Despite the fact that Luke didn’t apologize, Gus knew there was a little regret that lingered inside the wolf at all the strife his confession and dredging up of the past had brought on them all.

The Sweet Spotwas an endless stream of humans and shifters and it wasn’t hard to lose visual contact with Luke.

Gus straddled his bike as Michael did the same with his. Blake stood between them. “She going to be okay?” he asked.
