Nick furrowed his brows, staring at me blankly. “There is no plan. My deputies and I are going to go in there, retrieve the child, and arrest Asha. I already have a warrant to search the home.”

“How in the hell did you get a warrant so fast? And you can forget that whole plan of leaving me out of going in there and getting Gabrielle myself.”

I wasn’t playing any games with him. I wasn’t putting Gabi’s safety in the hands of anyone other than myself. It was crazy how I already felt connected to her. I'd spent so many hours listening to Giovanna talk about Gabi, I felt like I’d known her since the day she was born.

“This isn’t up for discussion, Capone. This is official police business, and I won’t have you or the club jeopardizing this case,” Nick remarked.

“You wouldn’t have a case without the club!” I snapped. “The man who is over this case and holds a very important title within the government handed the reins over to Viper’s Ol’ Lady Cara. She trustedmeto see this thing through. Now, like I said before, I will be going inside that house. The only way you’ll be stopping me is by putting a bullet in my head.”

Nick gritted his teeth, staring at me with fire in his eyes. He opened his mouth to say something, but Razor cut him off. “Just let him go, Nick. The branch Cara worked for is higher than the damn FBI so, if they’re okay with Capone helping with the case, then you shouldn’t have a problem.”

Nick muttered, “Fine,” and began telling me the plan. He didn’t get that far before I shook my head furiously.

“Hell no. We’re not knocking on the fuckin’ door. The second she sees the cops on her porch, she is going to know what we’re here for. You’re risking Gabi’s life. Who’s to say she won't kill herself and take Gabi with her?” I asked.

“That’s the point of the warrant. If she doesn’t open, we can go in by force.”

“Again, you’re assuming you can get to her before she does anything to Gabi. That’s a risk I’m not taking.”

“Then what do you suggest, Capone?” he growled in frustration.

Just then, Armor walked up to the group, pocketing the same tool he used to pick the locks at Tony’s. “You could always gothrough the back door. People always have a bad habit of not locking them.” He shrugged before propping himself against the van.

“What did you do?” Nick questioned him with narrowed eyes.

“Nothing. It was merely a suggestion.” He smirked.

“Let's go.” I walked off, not waiting for Nick. He could either tag along or I would go alone. It really didn’t matter to me.

Nick and his three deputies moved swiftly behind me. When I made it to the rear door, I turned the knob, and sure enough, it was open. I didn’t know how Armor managed to sneak away to do this, but I would make sure the next time we went out that his drinks were on me.

The house was eerily quiet, so we had to tip-toe through the home. When we made it to a hallway, there were six different doors but only two were open. The first door I peeked into, I spotted Gabi resting peacefully in a room that was clearly designed for her. There were princess and unicorn themed decorations throughout the room.

I sighed in relief, knowing I had found her. I eyed the other open door down the hall and was willing to bet that’s where Asha was. I had to move, and I had to move fast.

I turned to Nick who was right behind me. “I’m going to get Gabi out of here. I don’t want her to hear anything that might happen,” I whispered.

“I agree. We’ll stand outside Asha’s door just in case she wakes up while you’re trying to get Gabi out.”

I nodded and made my way into the room.

Once I made it to the bed, I bent down and scooped her up. She stirred in her sleep before resting her head on my shoulder with a content sigh. My heart beat wildly in my chest. The same urge of protectiveness I had for her mother washed over me.As I made it down the steps of the porch, I could hear Asha screaming.

“Get off me! Where is she? You can’t take her! She’s my baby! She’s mine!”

I tried to get away from the noise so it wouldn’t wake Gabi, but it was too late. Her little head popped up as she looked up at me with confusion and a bit of fear. I was a stranger, so I understood. I needed to ease her mind quickly.

“Don’t be scared, Lil Bit. I’m here to take you to your mommy.”

Her hazel eyes, that were identical to Giovanna’s, brightened as she smiled. “Mommy?” she questioned excitedly.

“Yeah. She’s been missing you.”

“I miss Mommy.” She nodded in agreement.

“Well, let’s get back to her. You okay with that?”

“Yes!” she cheered, clapping her hands.
