The only thing that could be heard was our heavy breathing as we stared into each other eyes.
“That was….”
“Un-fuckin believable.” He finished my sentence.
After a few pecks, he got up and went into the bathroom. He returned with a rag and cleaned me up like he did last night. As much as I had enjoyed what we’d done I couldn’t help but wonder why he hadn’t tried to go all the way.
Clearly, he was attracted to me, but something was holding him back.
“What is it, Sugar?” he asked as if he could read my mind.
“Why haven’t you…” I trailed off, not knowing how to word this without seeming bothered.
Pulling me from the bed. he wrapped his arms around me. “Because once you give me your body to me fully, you will be mine. There won't be any second-guessing or changing your mind. I want you to fully understand when I claim you, it will be for life. You think you’re the only one who can get hurt, but, Sugar, you have the power to break me in a way no woman has, and you don’t even know it.”
I was caught off guard as he spoke those words with conviction. I knew he had deep feelings for me, but I didn’t knowit was to this extent. He was protecting his heart because of my uncertainty, and I couldn’t be mad about that.
“I have no intentions of hurting you, Luca. If it was just me, it would be so much simpler, but I have to protect Gabi.”
“I know and I understand. That’s why I can be patient and wait. There’s no timeline. We’ll take this one day at a time. Nobody makes the rules but us.”
Rising on my toes, I kissed him passionately. After a few minutes, he broke the kiss. “Come on, Sugar. Let me take a quick shower so I can take you back to your hotel and you can do the same. We need to go get Lil Bit.”
Right as wewere about to leave my hotel room to go pick up Gabi, Capone’s phone rang. I saw Viper’s name flash across the screen before he picked it up. His face morphs into a deep frown as he listened. He stared at me in concern. My heart dropped into the pit of my stomach.
“Is it Gabi?” I questioned frantically.
“No, Giovanna. She’s fine,” he whispered, kissing my forehead.
“Oh, okay.” I breathed a sigh of relief.
“We’re on our way, Prez. I should be there in about fifteen minutes.” He ended the call. He sighed and ran his palm down his face. Capone looked agitated and worried.
“What’s going on?”
“Derek’s parents are at the clubhouse looking for you.”
“What?!” I shrieked.
“Apparently, they came here first, and when you didn’t answer your room door, they went there. They said they’re not leaving until they speak with you. Derek’s mother is threateningto call the police, claiming we’re holding you and Gabrielle against your will.”
“Oh my God! They have officially lost their minds. Come on, let's go. I don’t want the club mixed up in my drama after everything you all have done for me.”
I grabbed my room key and purse and dashed out the door. Capone was hot on my heels. He grabbed hold of my hand, stopping me. Turning me around, he pulled me to him.
“Stop that. No one is angry with you. As far as anyone is concerned, you’re my woman, so your problems are my problems. Now, let’s go handle this.”
He left no room for arguments as he pecked my lips and pulled me along. He quickly ushered me into his truck before taking off to the clubhouse. The drive went by in a flash as my thoughts were consumed with coming face-to-face with Derek’s parents after finding out everything.
I knew I couldn’t avoid them forever, but I wasn’t ready to see them. Hell, I still wasn’t ready but here they were, forcing my hand. It made me think of all the turmoil I had to deal with while I was with Derek. There were so many times I had to accept things I wasn’t okay with because I wanted to keep the peace for the sake of my marriage.
Derek’s mother was always overbearing.
When we got married, she had to be a part of it, even though she didn’t care for me. My wedding was a happy day for me, but I couldn’t really enjoy it because his mother had taken over. It was more her wedding than mine.
During the holidays, I wanted to start myowntraditions inmyhousehold, but she demanded we spend holidays at her home. Derek never spoke up for me so eventually, I just fell into a pattern of letting Derek’s family walk all over me.
I knew they’d probably been worried out of their minds, wanting to lay eyes on Gabi, but I didn’t have any room tosympathize with them. I earned the right to be selfish and keep my baby to myself for a little while. To me, they were just as guilty as Derek. They brought that lunatic into my daughter’s life and nearly destroyed mine.
