“Now, get your crazy ass out of here before the cops show up. You all too!” he shouted to the Ol’ Ladies. They quickly got into their vehicles and drove away. Blade began walking back to his SUV.

“Cam,” Cara called out, stopping him in his tracks. He turned around and you could clearly see he was annoyed. “I need you to remember one thing.”

“And what’s that?” he asked impatiently.

“Snitches get stitches.”

I could hear Bianca howling in laughter as we drove away. I laughed as I thought about the event that just took place. Who would have known lunch would end with a possible decapitation? It truly was never a dull day in this club.

Chapter Twenty-One

CAPONE

“It was a pleasure doing business with you both,” our newest client said to Cara and Sara. He had just signed a yearly contract for four guards to protect his family. Recently, his daughter and son were held for ransom. Thankfully, the police were able to retrieve his children unharmed, but the situation still weighed heavily on his heart.

Being the CEO of an up-and-coming media company, he now understood that people would do anything to get a piece of his pie. It was smart on his part to take precautions to ensure his family’s safety.

Sometimes, I was still in a state of shock at how fast the security company had taken off. We were signing contracts left and right. The girls were already talking about hiring more guards. I knew that would put more on my plate, but I didn’t mind. I was well compensated for my time.

On the way out of the conference room, the client looked over at Viper sitting in the corner of the room. When Viper made eye contact with him, he quickly looked away and made a hasty exit.

Viper had been Cara’s shadow for almost a week now. After he found out what went down after the Ol Ladies lunch, he wasn’t letting her out of his sight.

I was still baffled at how Jamie and Jayda were behaving. They’d been around long enough to know Cara wasn’t the one you went looking for trouble with. Maybe they believed the baby in her belly would slow her down. Either way. It was foolish. Even if Cara decided not to retaliate, they knew the club would if Cara or any of the Ol’ Ladies had been harmed.

I tried calling Jamie to tell her to back off, but her phone had been disconnected. I even tried going by her apartment just to find out from her neighbor that she had moved. To top it off, she had quit her job at the bar. No one had seen or heard from her.

Only time would tell why she disappeared off the face of the earth. Until then, I would keep my eyes open.

“Babe, do you seriously have to sit in the corner during my business meetings, looking like the grim reaper?” Cara asked, pinning Viper with a look.

“I sure do,” he said nonchalantly and continued scrolling through his phone.

“Ugh,” Cara groaned, throwing her head back. “I really wish you would let this go. It wasn’t that big of a deal.”

Viper snapped his head up and frowned. He stood, making his way to her. “Not a big deal? Cara, you tried to behead a woman in broad daylight.”

Gunner, Dice, and I snickered at his dramatics. If Cara truly wanted to rip Jayda’s head off, she could have done it. I understood his frustrations with Cara putting herself in harm’s way, especially while with child, but what did he really expect? Cara and Sara had never been the type to just roll over and take it.

“Oh my God. You and Mom are really blowing this out of proportion. I want to see you let another man touch you and do nothing.”

“That’s the difference, Cara, I’m not pregnant. You are. I understand Jayda was looking for a problem with you, but you should have just driven away.”

“That’s what I did.” She bucked her eyes at him.

Dice, Gunner, and I couldn’t hold in our laughter any longer. The frustration on Viper’s face alone was comical.

He pinched the bridge of his nose, staring at the ceiling. “You know that’s not what I meant. You should have driven awaywithoutJayda’s head trapped inside your vehicle, Hellcat.”

“Semantics.” She shrugged.

“Cara, you know what that man means. You shouldn’t have touched Jayda at all while pregnant,” Gunner said through his laughter.

“I didn’t touch her. My truck did.” Cara shrugged again, picking at her nails.

Viper’s lip twitched like he was trying to fight a smile. “You’re a nut.” He laughed, pulling her into his arms.

“Yup, but I’m your nut and you love me.” Rising on her toes, she pecked his lips a few times. “Now let's go. I want to go love on my nephew.”
