Today, the clubhouse was throwing a party to celebrate the grand opening of the bakery tomorrow. Our families had flown in for the festivities. When I called my mother and invited her, I didn’t expect her to tell Luca’s mother about it, nor did I expect her to call Luca and ask why they hadn’t been invited.
Luca and his father were working on the relationship day by day, and it was getting better with time. Still, neither of us expected them to want to deal with the club directly. But here we were, pulling up to the clubhouse, with our families driving in behind us.
“Not really. Either they’re going to accept the club or they won’t, but this is our life to live whether they like it or not.”
I smiled sweetly before leaning over the armrest and kissing his cheek. “You’re absolutely right about that.”
I had grown to really love the MC lifestyle. Riding on the back of Luca’s bike, meeting the Ol’ Ladies for lunch, and all the kids, had become the norm for me. I wouldn’t change a single thing about my life as of late.
Well, maybe not everything. If I had it my way, Jamie kidnapping me and ultimately losing her life would be something I would change. It had been three weeks since that fateful night, and Jamie’s picture had been plastered all over the local news as a missing person.
Luca had assured me nothing would come back on the club, and so far, he had been right. The club hadn’t even been questioned about Jamie’s disappearance. I felt really bad when I saw Jamie’s mother on the news, crying and begging for someone to come forward, but then Luca broke it down for me. Jamie’s family waited until it was too late to get her the help she needed. There was no concern for her sister when she approached Cara in that parking lot, nor was there any concern when her cousin decided to pull the stunt she did at the spa. And even though we didn’t have any concrete evidence, there was no way it was a coincidence that Jamie tried to run me off the road after I left the spa that day. I would bet my last dollar that Jamie’s cousin called her and gave her my location.
All in all, no one was trying to give Jamie the help she needed until it was too late, and now that was a harsh reality they would have to live with for the rest of their lives.
Once Luca parked the truck, he got out and opened my door, helping me, and then retrieved Gabi from the backseat. Our families stood to the side waiting for us to lead them to the back of the clubhouse, where we could hear a mixture of music and laughs.
“I can’t believe you convinced Dad to leave his detail behind while he spends the day at an MC clubhouse,” Matteo said as he approached us.
Luca chuckled and shook his head. “Little brother, who do you think you’re fooling? I might have stayed away for a while, but I know our father. I’m pretty sure his detail isn’t too far away, while he probably has two birds in the sky.”
Matteo’s eyes lit up with amusement. “Touché, big brother. Touché.”
“Now, let’s get back there. From the smell I’m catching, Cara is on the grill, and that woman is unmatched when it comes to barbecue,” Capone stated.
Luca grabbed my hand as he led me around the back of the clubhouse. As soon as we rounded the corner, Gabi was trying her best to shimmy out of his arms. He placed her on her feet, and she took off toward the pool where Crystal was already waiting with a life vest for her.
The pool was filled with kids, including her crew. There were several bounce houses spread throughout the yard, and a few of the brothers were tossing a football.
“Somebody pinch me. I have died and gone to hot biker heaven,” Alessia said as she practically drooled, looking at all the brothers.
“Aww, come on, man. Don’t nobody want to hear that.” Niccolò gagged.
“Come on, let me introduce you all to my prez and his Ol’ Lady,” Capone told everyone.
Viper and Cara were oblivious to us approaching them. He was rubbing her stomach while whispering in her ear. Whatever he was saying had her cheeks pink while she squirmed in his arms.
Capone cleared his throat, breaking their love connection. Viper grinned as he scanned our family standing behind us. “Didn’t mean to interrupt, but I want to introduce our families to everyone,” Capone said.
“No problem at all, brother,” Viper replied.
“Everyone, this is the president of the club, Viper, and his Ol’ Lady, Cara. Cara and her sister, Sara, are also responsible for bringing Lil Bit back to us.” Luca then proceeded to tell Viperand Cara everyone’s name. When he got to his father, Cara’s eyes ballooned, and she looked like she had seen a ghost.
“Sara!” she yelled.
Capone and his father looked at each other with worried expressions as Cara continued to stare at Lorenzo in shock.
“What?” Sara asked as she stood next to Cara.
Cara didn’t say a word. She turned Sara’s body until she was facing Lorenzo as well. Just like Cara, Sara’s mouth dropped open and her eyes widened. “Oh. My. God.”
“Capone!” Cara shrieked as she punched him on his good arm.
“What?” he replied in confusion.
“Did you really just walk up in here with the Don of the Ferrari Mafia and think I wouldn’t notice?” As if something hit her, she took a step back. “Wait a minute. Your last name is Ferrari, too. Oooohh, you got some explaining to do.” Cara folded her arms across her chest with a raised brow.
“Can we save this for another day, please?”
