‘Shit, yes. We have a gift and everything,’ I said, suddenly remembering Sara had picked this ancient pagan holiday to celebrate Leszek’s birthday when we found out deities didn’t have them.

It was meant to be a surprise for him, and I hoped he wasn’t so surprised that he unleashed the power of the forest upon us in what was supposed to be the celebration of his magic.

‘Perfect, let’s do the handover so we have time for a beauty sleep,’ she said, stretching once we’d finished organising the room.

That’s what I loved about Sara. She might be at the top of the pecking order, but it never stopped her from doing the menial jobs if it meant she could help someone.

An hour later, we left the hospital to see the soft glow of the Autumn sun. Adam and Leszek were already outside, waiting for us to finish our shift. Sara’s husband was, as always, impeccably dressed with the obligatory caramel latte. I didn’t need small gifts. Seeing Adam’s roguish smile was enough to improve my day.

‘See you later, Matron. Don’t forget to bring your wellies,’ Sara called, taking Leszek’s arm. They were going for a walk so she could vent all her work frustrations while he quietly listened. Somehow, it had become their ritual to stroll along the banks of the Motlawa River, and I noticed more and more supernatural citizens joining them. It was both a fashion statement and an opportunity to exchange a word or two with the power couple.

‘Shall we head home or to the Seethe to see your brother?’ Adam asked, bending over to tenderly kiss my lips.

‘Home,’ I said, ‘We can see Pawel tomorrow. I need some sleep before the party… I mean ritual.’ I chuckled slightly, but we both knew there wouldn’t be a sober soul left after Leszek finished with the harvest spellbinding.

‘As you wish, sweetheart. If you don’t object, I think it’s time for Pawel to rejoin the world outside the of the Seethe. He’s made significant progress, and we have a vacant porter position at the clinic. It will be the perfect new start, not to mention you can keep an eye on him,’ Adam said, leading me to the car.

I gasped slightly, but it was welcome news. The first few weeks were hard for Pawel. His vampire thirst, mixed with his forced sobriety and subsequent detox, had caused him to experience excruciating pain and inflicted him with a foul temper. I’d spent almost all that time nursing him until he was healthy enough to unlock his room.

I’d taken on Pawel’s care in part to remove the burden from the vampires that lived in the compound, and it gave me the opportunity to become closer to them and learn more about being a vampire. I became an unofficial messenger and the buffer between the Seethe and Adam’s explosive temper.

After the short drive, Adam parked the car in the underground garage, and I took his hand when we talked toward the elevator.

‘You make me happy,’ I said when the elevator pinged and started moving.

‘What’s up? Is everything okay?’ He asked, taking my chin and lifting my face to look me in the eye.

‘Everything’s fine. I was just thinking about life and how my worst fears turned into my greatest strength. I’m not afraid anymore. With you and Sara around, there is nothing I can’t face. You are the best, my Cyber Prince Charming.’ I said, slowly stroking his chest. Adam smirked, leaning into my touch before pushing me until my back pressed against the elevator wall.

The next thing I knew, I was caged between my lover’s arms as he placed his lips next to my ear, my skin caressed by his breath, giving me goosebumps when he spoke.

‘Prince Charming? I prefer Dark Prince because I want you trembling beneath me. I want to impale you on my cock while I feast on your blood and you scream my name,’ he whispered.

I could feel the hunger in his voice. The bloodlust and desire that drove us both to new heights. I moved the hand that was resting on his chest, sliding it down until I cupped his erection.

‘Oh, do you? Maybe I will even allow it. I believe the marks on my neck need refreshing,’ I murmured, giving him a few firm strokes through the fabric.

‘Shit, can’t this thing move faster?’ Adam hit the wall, visibly frustrated by the elevator’s speed, and I took way too much pleasure in teasing him.

‘Tut tut, is Loverboy in a rush? Didn’t your female friends ever tell you never to rush a lady’s seduction?’

‘Lorelai!Smooth Operator, now!’ Adam shouted, lifting me into his arms. As soon as the doors opened, he rushed to the bedroom while I laughed like a crazed jockey.

After a few incidents where his housekeeping spirit accidentally, or maybe not so accidentally, appeared in our bedroom while we were doing the deed, Adam came up with the code phrase.Smooth Operatorput the apartment on lockdown and forbade Lorelai from coming anywhere near us unless the world was ending.

Music filled the house when Adam threw me on the bed so hard that I bounced. He hadn’t tasted my blood for some time. We couldn’t do it too often, and after deliberation, he agreed that once a month would be safe. Since I gave him my permission in the elevator, Adam was like a possessed man and eager to make his threat come true.

The ripping sound surprised me. Adam didn’t waste time undressing. He simply grabbed the front of his shirt and tore it apart, revealing his chest and the tattoo of a winged obsidian dagger over his heart. I liked to look at it, especially after he explained its symbolism: the two of us forever bound together, protecting our love.

‘On no, you are not ripping off my clothes. I like this outfit,’ I squealed, crawling away from him, laughing.

‘Oh yes, I will,’ Adam said with a low predatory growl in his voice that made me shiver with anticipation.

‘Adam!’ I screamed when he ripped away my clothes.

‘I’m going to worship you, Nina. I’ll worship my At’kar until she whimpers my name,’ he said before descending between my thighs.

His tongue caressed the most sensitive part of me, bringing me to my peak with an expertise that did, in fact, make me whimper, but Adam was merciless as he rose up and pulled me closer. When his shaft pressed against my entrance, my whimpers turned to growls, and my legs wrapped around his body, trying to drag him forward.
