It wasn’t necessary to say that, but admitting that aloud for the first time feels right.
“If you ever get the urge to break the law, give me a call.” I curl my hand into the shape of a phone and give her a wink. “See you around.”
She probably thinks I’m joking. Probably thinks that I’ll come to my senses and head back to California to sit behind a desk again.
I can’t wait to prove her wrong.
EPILOGUE
LUCIA
I should’ve donesome warm-up exercises to prepare for this reunion.
Six giant arms wrap around me, almost cutting off my circulation.
I expected this, but I didn’t expect the tears.
“Fuck, Lucia.” Saint pats at his watery eyes. “I think this entrance beats the first one.”
Just as I suspected, the brothers look even more irresistible than they did the last time I saw them.
I relax into their touches. Nothing sayshome sweet homequite like the smells of gasoline, booze, and leather.
They lower me down onto a bar stool like I’m incapable of taking a seat myself. I’m more than capable, but I’m happy to milk the princess treatment for as long as possible.
Ash slips behind the bar and pours me a glass of ice water.
I inhale it in seconds, spinning the empty glass back his way for another.
“The bandages…” Saint looks at my legs, then back up at my face, wrecked currently with cuts from when the windshield shattered. “Your face…”
“Everything is fine.”
Anyone would think it wasthemthat were involved in the collision. They cup my face as if they can’t believe that I’m real and stare at me with intense eye contact, unable to look away.
Ash hands me a second glass of water and squeezes my hand until it turns blue.
I chuckle. “I survived a car crash. It’s not like I came back from the dead. Seriously, guys, everything is fine.”
Ash breaks eye contact, which says a lot for him.
Did I unintentionally pull at something?
Saint takes the cigarette from his mouth and puts it out. “We have a confession to make.”
“Our parents were involved in a car collision,” Ash says. “It’s how they died.”
Fuck.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize?—”
“It’s fine,” Ryder says. “We thought we were going to lose you, darling, but you’re back.”
“That’s all that matters,” Saint adds.
All that matters…
What if they actually lost me?
