And I’d forgotten that there was a park nearby.

I sat down on the bench, watching the kids play while parents watched like hawks. One mom’s eyes widened dramatically when her toddler tried to walk down the bars. She made it to her child just in time to offer a helping hand. It made me smile seeing that I wasn’t the only paranoid one.

For the first time, I thought, maybe I wasn’t terrible at this. Maybe the way I’d been feeling was normal.

And in the summer, when Evie was a bit older, I could walk down with her, put her in the baby swing, or even go down the slide with her in my lap.

I wasn’t used to the tingling hope building in my chest, and I knew just who to blame for it.

CHAPTER10

ETHAN

You know, you really changed my outlook on things.

In a good way?

Yeah.

I feel like I can do this now. Like I just have to take things one step at a time. But actually, I’m excited. There’s a bunch of stuff I’ve been wanting for a long time but I didn’t do anything about any of it. Now, I want to start planning things.

Yeah? That’s great to hear Jaime. Genuinely have me smiling ear to ear.

What are you going to do first?

Not sure.

Find a babysitter so I can have some time to decide? Lol

Well, let me know as soon as you find one.

Why?

So I can take you for dinner.

I staredat my phone for far too long, chewing my lip while I waited anxiously for an answer.

Trust me at thirty to fall for the straight guy, but I couldn’t get him, or the feeling of his hard cock, out of my mind. I’d woken up this morning, achingly hard with his fantom length buried down my throat, remembering so vividly that it felt like it was happening again.

He’d let me do it once. What was to stop it from happening again? And then over and over after that?

There was just something about Jaime. Maybe it was the way his deep vulnerability showed on the surface. Maybe it was the way that he looked at me. Maybe it was fate. Hell, all I knew was that I wanted to hold him again and kiss him mercilessly and spoil him and his sweet little girl rotten.

“Wow.Someone’s got it bad.”

I looked up, realizing that Naomi was leaning against the makeup desk watching me with her arms crossed, a playful smile on her face that only grew when I promptly turned red and tucked my phone hastily into my pocket.

Her jaw dropped.

“No way! I was just joking. Did you actually meet someone that you like?”

I rolled my eyes, but my cheeks were getting hotter by the minute and she gasped.

“It’s not that. It was a work message.”

“Uh-huh,” she said skeptically.
