“Anything good?”

I shook my head.

“Not that I’m qualified for.”

He grimaced.

“But I did set some other stuff up,” I said, watching for his reaction. “GED classes and driving lessons. They even pick you up from home.”

His brows shot up.

“Jaime!” He leaned across the table, pressing his lips to mine. “That’s amazing. I’m so proud of you.”

I chuckled, cheeks heating.

“Don’t be too proud yet. I still have to pass them.”

“You will,” he said sincerely. “And once Tiny Tots daycare gets back to you, you won’t have to rely on me to be free to babysit either. You’ll have your days free again.”

The idea of sending Evie off all day long made me squirm a little.

“Do they do half-days?” I asked uneasily.

“I’m sure there’s some sort of part-time option,” he said. “You can ask them when they get back to you.”

I nodded, reminding myself to breathe. I would have to get used to not being glued to Evie if I was going to do all the things I planned for her.

“What about you?” I asked, remembering. “You said there was something you were going to tell me about your work?”

It still felt weird to refer to him filming his show as “work” even though that was what it was for Ethan. It was his regular day job, and his writing was his side hustle.

He grimaced and shook his head.

“It was a weird day,” he said. “Some people came to watch the show getting filmed.”

He took a sip of his coffee, his gaze drifting.

“Our ratings are really good and keep getting better… apparently we drew some attention from a big studio out in LA. Or maybe my producer Arty reached out to them, I’m not really sure.”

I didn’t know what to say for a moment, but the tentative way that Ethan was watching me made it all clear.

“They want to pick up your show?” I asked.

He nodded slowly.

“Yes. They’re making some big promises. A bigger network and broader reach but… that would mean moving to LA.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah,” he agreed, staring at me, clearly trying to read my reaction, and he must have seen something bad because he reached out, placing a hand over mine on the table.

“I didn’t agree.”

My eyes widened.

“What? Ethan, you have to!”

For a moment, he looked taken aback.
