She rubs my thigh. “I know. Can I just say something though?”

“Of course.”

“You don’t know what everyday life would be like with him. You only know about sex. I think you need to chill just a little bit in case it’s not everything you hoped for.”

I frown. “You don’t think it could work?”

“I totally do, Trist, but I’m just saying, you don’t really know yet. Maybe it’ll happen, but you need to focus on school. We’re almost through this year.”

“Almost through? We have a long road ahead.” Trinity starts to speak, but my phone rings. “It’s him.”

“Yes?”

“I cannot wait—” His words stop abruptly.

“For?”

“I can’t wait to see you again. To kiss you again. To hold you. Please understand I will miss you, and I will think about you while you’re gone.”

I feel my eyes tearing up. “Really?”

“You don’t think you do something to me?”

“I hoped.”

“I don’t know what to do, Tristan. I don’t know how to balance how I feel about you and my relationship with your dad, but those things I just said to you are true.”

“Thank you,” I whisper.
