“But I need you to do something for me.”

“Anything. Literally anything.”

“Finish school. It matters so much to your dad, and frankly, the space between us is good right now. I need time to think this through, and you need time to focus on yourself.”

I nod as a tear slides down my cheek. “I understand.”

“I hope you do.”

“I do.” I wipe my face. “But I meant what I said, and I hope you did too. I’m yours alone. Are you still mine?”

“I have no idea how this fucking happened.”

“Bishop? Will you wait for me? Are you still mine?”

“Promise me something before I answer you.”

“Okay.”

“If you meet someone else, someone who captures your attention, give him a chance.”

I shake my head, squeezing my eyes shut. “Impossible.”

“If it happens. Please?”

“Fine. If it happens, but don’t you want me?” His silence tears me up. “I know it’s hard, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t real. Please answer me.”

“Yes, Tristan.” His voice is remarkably soft. “I want you. I will wait for you. I am… yours.”

My heart feels like it will burst in my chest right now. “I’ll do my best in school. I will. I’ll make you proud. And I’ll be back in June.”

“I’ll be waiting, and I’m already proud of you.”

I smile through tear-soaked eyes. “Thank you.”

“I’ll see you in June.”

“Thanks for talking.”

“Yeah.”

I hang up and glance at Trinity. “That was awesome. He said he’s mine and he’ll wait.”

She smiles. “I love it. You’ll get your man. I just know it.”

“I hope you’re right.”

“I’m always right.”

All I can do now is try my hardest to get through school so I can get back to Bishop.

SEVEN

BISHOP

About two months after last speaking to Tristan, I walk into his father’s house.

“Hey, Rocco.”
