Those last three words gave me pause. Although I’d confessed my feelings to her and she admitted to having feelings for me, she’d never come right out and told me she loved me. If we were together, my face or dick would be buried between her luscious thighs.
“I love you too, baby.”
“We did it! I’m free!”I cheered, then high-fived Ginae and fell back onto the huge, cushy sectional I’d chosen for our living room.
“Listen! I didn’t think this plan would work, but my girl really bought a house, moved all her shit out, changed jobs, and dipped like a thief in the night. That’s some cold shit, sis.”
She sat on the sectional a few feet away.
“Do you think I should’ve done something more explosive?”
“No. When he finds out your new man is Tariq, he’ll definitely explode.”
“I’ve been thinking about that. He may not care as much as I thought, especially since he already has someone lined up to replace me.”
“Nah. His cocky ass gon’ flip when you and Tariq pop out together. If that nigga finds out you bought a house, ain’t no telling what he’ll do. Make sure he doesn’t find out your address.”
“Maurice ain’t that crazy, . . . at least he’s never given me that kinda crazy vibes.”
“That’s because you’ve never given him a reason to act crazy. You were his good girl. You’re beautiful, educated, employed, and prefer to be home more than outside. You trusted his word, for the most part, and didn’t ask a lot of questions.”
I nodded in agreement. “I guess that’s true.”
“When he finds this shit out, you may see a different side of him.”
Ginae gave me something to think about. Maurice and I had many arguments over the years, but he never became so upset that I was afraid of him. We talked for a while longer before she had to go home and pack for her next nursing assignment in Houston and would be gone for a month.
“If something goes down while I’m gone, which I know it will, you better call me right away. Don’t wait until I come back to drop all the bombs on me.”
“I will. I promise.”
I watched her until she drove away, then secured all the locks on the door before turning on the alarm. It was the first time I’d sleep in my new home alone, and I already missed Tariq.
When I got to our bedroom, I sighed. I still had several boxes to unpack and had been extremely exhausted for the past few days. However, I had two weeks before I started my new job, Tariq would be gone for a few days, and Ginae wouldn’t be back for a month. I had plenty of time to get organized.
A few hours later, I’d made a small dent in my unpacking. My phone rang with a FaceTime call, and I was shocked to see Maurice’s face on my screen. I’d forgotten to block him butplanned to do so as soon as the call ended. When the phone stopped ringing, I went through the steps to block his number, but before I could finish, he sent a text.
Maurice:
I tried to call you, but I guess you’re busy. Call me when you can. I love you.
I burst out laughing as I blocked his number. Maurice was a joke, and I couldn’t wait to get the last laugh.
“I missed you,” Tariq said, embracing me.
“I missed you more. It was lonely here without you.”
He released me and put just enough space between us to press his lips against mine. If his words didn’t convince me that he missed me, his kiss sure as hell did. I couldn’t stop myself from moaning in his mouth.
“Damn. I missed your lips. I missed how your body feels in my arms. I missed your scent.”
After rubbing his hands up and down my frame and burying his nose in my neck for a moment, he released me. All I could do was smile because I could feel his love for me.
“Let me look at you,” he said, taking a step back.
“Tariq, you’re being silly. It’s only been a few days. I look the same.”
“Look at them titties sitting up pretty for me.” He squeezed them, and I tried not to frown because of how sore they were. “I can’t wait to suck on your nipples. Turn around.”
