Her insides tangled. She wanted desperately to believe him. It was just too much to hope for. He might be feeling magnanimous now, but she knew how sex could cloud issues. When his brain cleared, he’d remember his job and his duty. Her legs shook as she got off the bed and drew the robe around herself.

“Wrong way,” he said. He pushed the robe off her shoulders, and it fell to the floor. He turned down the bed with just as much efficiency.

“What are you going to do with me?” she asked quietly.

“Sleep with you.”

He caught her and lifted her like a feather. Suddenly off balance, she wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck. Without ceremony, he thrust into her again, already hard and full.

She gasped. “But we already…”

His smile turned wolfish. “It’s been six months for me, too.”

He began to pump in and out of her, and her resistance melted. Oh, how she wanted to let herself sink into this fantasy. She wanted to trust him. She wanted to believe he’d protect her.

She closed her eyes in surrender. She knew she shouldn’t let this happen. He was her hunter. He’d been chasing her forever—but she reveled in finally being caught.

He tried to kiss her again, but she pressed her face into the crook of his neck.

“Reno,” she sighed as she raked her fingernails down his back.

Tonight, she’d give in to all the wants and needs that had been building inside her for months. Tonight, she’d love him like she wanted to, but tomorrow…

Tomorrow, she was going down fighting.

CHAPTER FIVE

Sunlight streaming through the window woke Reno the next morning. He didn’t know what time it was, but he could have slept for another four to five hourseasy. With a groan, he pressed his face into the pillow.

What a night. He and Dani had gone at it until almost dawn. He hadn’t been able to get enough of her, and once she’d let go… Man, he’d had a wildcat on his hands. Hard and fast. Slow and easy. It hadn’t mattered how, as long as they’d been touching.

Which they weren’t now…

He reached out to pull her warm body close again, but his head jerked up when his hand touched cool sheets. She wasn’t there.

The covers were pulled back. He looked to the bathroom, but the door stood open and the light was off.

He surged upright. The move nearly separated his shoulder. His head snapped toward the headboard, and a flurry of curses flew from his lips.

She’d handcuffed him to the bed.

“Shit!”

He twisted his wrist and tried to pull his hand through the cuff, but it held tight.

“Damn it!” She’d turned the tables on himagain.

His temper snapped. Had last night meant nothing to her? He’d thought they’d made a connection.

He tugged hard on the headboard. It held solid. He wrapped his fist around the spindle he was chained to and yanked it so hard that the bed bucked. As he’d been so quick to tell her, though, the Roquefort was a nice hotel. That meant good furniture.

Twisting about, he tried to push with his feet for more leverage, but that didn’t work either. Kicking was useless. He didn’t have the flexibility.

Finally, out of breath, he gave up.

She’d gotten away again. This time, though, it hurt like hell.

He sank back against the pillows and stared hard at the ceiling. She was still running—running from him. Only now, he felt like his heart had been ripped out of his chest.
