Anything was possible, I supposed, but it didn’t sit right. Maybe if it had been one floor above or below, I could have believed it, but seven whole floors? I didn’t buy it.

Still, Jayden needed comfort and reassurance right then, not logic and facts.

“Whoever it was, I don’t think they’ll be back.” At least, not that night. “Just in case, though, I think it would be better if I stayed.”

“Okay,” he agreed easily. A sigh slipped past his lips, and he leaned into my hand when I reached out to stroke his cheek. “I’m fine. Really. Just a little shaken up.”

“Understandable. You did the right thing, though.”

I did wonder why he had called me instead of the police, but at the same time, I couldn’t complain. My heart swelled with something fierce and protective at knowing that, even scared and confused, he had turned to me.

“You can relax now.” I slid my hand along the curve of his jaw and down his throat to rest against the side of his neck. “I’m not going to let anything happen to you.”

“I know,” he whispered, his voice ringing with conviction. “Because I’m yours?”

Palming the back of his neck, I pulled him closer, dipping my head to meet his eyes in the dim light cast by the nearby lamp.

“Because I love you, Jayden.” I kept my expression open, earnest, letting him see the truth in my gaze. “You are my everything, and I would destroy the entire fucking world to keep you safe.”

“I know.” His lips quirked into a crooked grin, his voiced hushed in the quiet of the room. “I mean, it seems a little extreme, but who am I to argue with a hellhound?”

The teasing light faded from his eyes, replaced by a glossy sheen of something deeper and more profound.

“I love you, too, Trick. It’s a little scary how much I love you, but it feels good to finally say it.”

A heartbeat of silence stretched between us, the air thick with things left unspoken. Then instincts took over, drowning out everything else, and I dragged him to me with a possessive growl.

Our mouths crashed together, hot and hungry, and I thrust between his parted lips, desperate to taste him. Jayden moaned, his body soft and pliant beneath my touch, and arched against me in wordless invitation.

“I don’t really understand how this works,” he panted between nibbling kisses. “I just know I want you to belong to me. I want forever, Trick.”

With him, anything less would never be enough. “I want that, too, Jay, but I’ve always belonged to you. I don’t need some magical mating mark to prove it.”

“But I still want it,” he countered, his fingers fumbling with the waistband of my jeans. “The mark. The bond. I want it all.” He popped the button open and slid the zipper down, reaching inside the denim to palm my swollen shaft. “Make me yours, Trick.”

The growl that tore from my throat was dark and wild, more beast than man, and I caught the reflection of my glowing eyes in the windowpane behind him. The parts of myself I kept buried clawed their way to the surface, and raw, untamed magic swelled, battering against me like a violent storm.

I didn’t try to fight it. I let the power wash over me, fill me, riding the wave rather than trying to swim against it. The surge lasted less than a heartbeat, a mere flicker in time, but when I emerged on the other side, I did so stronger than ever.

For once in my life, I knew exactly who I was, who I was meant to be.

Capturing my mate’s face between my hands, I slanted our mouths together again, pulling him up on his toes as I ate at his lips. Our tongues tangled. Teeth scraped over sensitive skin. Hands roamed, grasping and pawing.

The room faded, narrowed, until nothing existed beyond the male in my arms. Outside these walls, the world continued to spin, but here, now, this moment belonged only to us.

We stumbled through the darkness, leaving a trail of discarded clothing across the hardwood floor. Instead of leading him down the hallway, I spun him around at the edge of the room, pushing him against the floor-to-ceiling window.

His sharp gasp fogged the glass, and an opaque outline formed around his hands where they pressed flat against the pane.

Tapping into magic I had never used before, I conjured a layer of clear gel across my palm and fisted my cock, giving it a couple of strokes to slick the shaft from base to crown. Then I slid my fingers along Jayden’s crease, coating the tight muscles at his entrance with the excess.

I dipped inside, breaching the fluttering ring, a groan bursting from my lips when soft, wet heat enveloped my fingers. His inner walls contracted, squeezing, pulling me deeper, and the sounds that spilled from his lips already had me teetering on the edge.

Blanketing his back, I peppered kisses across his shoulders and scraped my fangs over the hollow at the apex of his neck. I didn’t pierce the skin, not yet, but I loved the way he shivered in anticipation.

I stroked and caressed, touching every inch of him I could reach as I eased my fingers free and replaced them with the swollen head of my cock.

“Fucking hell,” Jayden groaned when I pushed forward, sinking into his heated channel. “Christ, you’re fucking big.”
