Uh…Why is Blue Eyes following me?
We can’t be too cautious after what happened at your place. I need to know you’re safe.
Well, he scared Brielle. Next time, he could be more discreet.
Done. Call him Blue Eyes again, and he’ll lose his eyes.
Omg, I don’t know his name, so how else am I supposed to refer to him? Would you settle down.
I shove my phone in my purse and ignoring the pings that follow, Brielle and I walk towards Victoria’s Secret. I don’t have the patience for his shit today and we haven’t had any quality mother and daughter time lately. This should be fun, giving Rex a nice big bill.
In the store, Brielle takes off to check out the bathing suits while I grab a bag and start looking at underwear. I guess I will need a lot since all of mine were shredded. I decide to pick out enough for a week and a half; it should be plenty until I canafford to get more on my own. I see a sexy red set on display that would look amazing on me. I check the tag to see the price, and gasp. There is no way I’m paying over one hundred dollars for underwear. Fuck that.
Brielle has a few things in her arms, so I head to her to look for a bathing suit. If there are two pools at Rex’s house, I may as well take advantage. Looking through the options, I grab a nice black one-piece. I need to hide those stretch marks. But I never know what mood I will be in, so I pick a sexy blue two-piece just in case. Might come in handy if Rex pisses me off.
When the cashier tells me the total, I almost choke on my saliva. But then I remember that Rex has someone following us without my permission, and the least I can do as payback is make sure we spend a little extra. I hand over his card with a smile on my face. I will make him regret his words.
Grabbing my things I thank the cashier and turn to leave the store. As we walk out, I see Blue Eyes standing not far away. He spots us and walks over.
“Boss said to bring these to his truck for you.” He gently takes the bags from me as Brielle steps behind me. Rolling my eyes, I grab her hand and walk away in the opposite direction. I know he looks scary, but he wouldn’t dare do anything or let anything happen to us with Rex breathing down his neck.
I’m sure Brielle will get used to all these rough and tumble looking men being around eventually. If it isn’t Rex’s men, I’m sure my father will have some of his guards following us. Joys of being from crime families with enemies everywhere.
I lose track of how many stores Brielle drags me into. Rex is going to have quite the bill, and I can’t help but feel bad. It was fun at first, but this is getting to be expensive.
Rex texts me an hour later.
Are you ready, or do you need more time? Remi and I are still at Skaters Edge and could use a bit longer.
I think we have enough stuff, but I could use some ice cream. We’ll head to the food court to wait for you guys.
I’m shocked that Remi, “Mr. I Hate Shopping,” is still shopping. He must be having a good time, and I’m glad, because he needs it. He hasn’t had a strong male influence in his life much lately.
We walk to the food court to get some Dairy Queen. I pick my favorite, Reese’s Blizzard, and Brielle gets her usual peanut butter M&M. I think they should make a combo of the two into a blizzard.
While we wait, I check the messages I missed from Rex while Brielle is on her phone doing whatever teens do these days.
You don’t need to know his name. He is your shadow, and that is all. We may not be in a relationship yet, but you are MINE.
Ignoring me changes nothing. I will prove to you later that you are mine and only mine.
You will be getting my belt later,Ma Belle Marguerite.I know you’re just trying to irritate me, and it is working.
This man will be the death of me. I delete the messages in case the kids look at my phone. They will have way too many questions that I don’t want to answer right now.
I hear Remi before I see him, and I’m surprised to hear the pure happiness in his voice. I look around and spot him smiling with Rex as they approach us. His arms are waving around as he talks animatedly. Brielle is too into her phone to notice Rex sitting down beside her.
Remi looks back and forth from the ice cream in my hand to me and asks, “Mom, can I go get some DQ? That looks delicious!”
“Sure, then we’ll head back to our house to pack.” I take a twenty from my wallet and hand it over. “Bring back the change please.”
Remi rushes away before I can change my mind. He can get so hyper with too much sugar, and he doesn’t need any help there.
“Actually,” Rex says, fixing me with a hopeful stare, “I figured we would just head straight to my place. It’s closer, and it will be late enough by the time we get back.”
Thankfully, Brielle is still too distracted to care about what we are discussing. “They won’t have any of their own things. They have things that are important to them they’ll want with them.” I whisper to Rex. This is a huge change super fast.
“We will go back first thing in the morning. I promise.” Rex's eyes are pleading with me to just agree with him. He knows I have a hard time sticking to my decisions when he looks at me with those big, intense blue eyes.
