My chest tightens as his words hang in the air.

“Just think about it.”

He steps back giving me space. “You don’t have to be alone. You always have me.”

His words hurt, but there’s truth to them, I know it. I feel it.

But fuck that.

I need answers.

I need to talk to Angelo.

I pull my phone out of my pocket and shoot my brother a text, telling him I want Angelo Amato’s number.

I see the message is read as I storm through the halls of his estate my steps echoing sharply on the stone floors of Luciano’s estate, each step angrier than the last.

Sunlight filters through the high arched windows, painting warm stripes over cold tiles I barely notice. I grip my phone tighter as I wait. The text bubble appears and disappears before a message comes through with his number.

My heart stutters, I haven’t spoken to this man in five years, not after he shattered my heart.

What the fuck am I going to say now?

Chapter 15

Angelo

My phone buzzes sharply on my office desk. I don’t need any more issues.

The lights cast a sterile glow against the stark white walls, contrasting with the matte black high ceiling overhead.

I barely glance at it before answering.

“Amato.”

“I gave her your number,” Luciano Castillo’s voice drawls.

Fuck.

Scarlet.

With this war. I almost forgot I married her on paper.

The Armenians ruined everything. But we finally have them—date, time, location. My brother’s team has done their job. We’re taking them down.

I was going to call for Scarlet to come.

Iwas.

“Alright,” I answer.

“She’s pissed the fuck off so this will be my one and only courtesy call, she’syourissue now.”

Luciano ends the call.

I stare at my phone.

Scarlet.
