“Where is Boogie?” She finally, asked even if looked like she didn’t want to.

“I don’t know, but hopefully with doc getting patched up,” I said, drying her body lightly.

She gave me a pointed look. “Don’t bullshit me or try to placate me.”

“I don’t know.” I sighed.

She nodded as I grabbed her hand and led her to the bed. I pulled the sheets off the bed, motioning for her to get in, and she did without a word. I handed her some pills that doc had left.

“These are just pain killers?” she asked softly.

“Yeah,” I said, studying her.

She nodded, staring at them for a moment longer before putting them in her mouth, and taking a drink from the Gatorade bottle I had given her. I clenched my jaw wondering how many times Kris had drugged her and what he had done to her to make her wary of drugs or doctors in general.

I slid in the bed behind her wrapping an arm around her waist, bringing her flush against my body. She threaded our fingers, intertwining our hands together. The absence of Boogie felt louder as we laid in bed without him. Ally sighed and I waited for her to say something, but nothing but silence surrounded us.

Minute by minute her body slowly started to relax and while I had the intention of leaving to find Boogie, I couldn’t stay awakeany longer either. The warmth of Ally’s body and the softness of the bed lulled me to sleep.

Chapter 19

Boogie

The stairs felt like a mountain, but I was finally done with my work. I needed to finish before King or Ally caught on to what I was doing. It was a gamble that it was going to work, but this was our only chance to keep Ally safe, and that's all that mattered at this point.

I was ready to eat and sleep for a day, but my job had taken longer than expected with Doc refusing to let me finish my work without checking on me. He was a stubborn man, and I almost killed him for it, but he made a good point that dying on Ally was pretty stupid, so I let him take a look at my shoulder and ass.

I didn’t bother knocking but used my key to enter the room to see King on the bed and Ally on the phone. She looked pissed off and fucking gorgeous. Like the queen she was, and the way she spoke to whoever was on the phone made me extremely horny. I hope she was on the verge of killing someone, and I would be able to witness it.

Ally glanced at me, her scowl deepening, and I knew King's expression would be the same, but this was something I had to do alone. King's moral compass was still slightly intact, and I knew he would think it was a bad idea, but I had no problem doing what needed to be done. This was the best possible plan.

“Arthur, what do you mean you can’t find those people?” Ally sounded frustrated. “Maverick said that?—”

Her brows furrowed as I walked to the bed, ignoring King. He growled at me, and I sighed, knowing I couldn’t delay it any longer. I looked over at him, underneath the anger, he was worried and I hated that. A little guilt hit me, but I squashed it down. This was for the best.

“I will go back whenever I please,” Ally snapped. “You better find an alternative or what the fuck am I paying you for? I’m coming home in three hours so you?—”

“Ally, do you think that is smart?” I asked, cutting her off.

She glared at me. “Yes, I need to be home, and Arthur isn’t having any luck with the people Maverick vetted.”

“It’s only been a day since the attack, Ally,” King said, kissing her shoulder. “Give him a little more time. There is no rush to leave here.”

“So, hide away until the men tell me it's ok to come out?” she snapped.

“Give Arthur one day, and we will take you back tomorrow,” I said, running a hand up her calf. “That's a reasonable compromise, no?”

I looked to King who narrowed his eyes at me, and then back to Ally. She clenched her jaw looking between us. My fighter was ready to kick some ass, but she had to know when to pull back.

“Tomorrow, Arthur,” she sighed. “I don’t give a fuck what you have to do, but I better have someone there to talk to, or you better find people to replace who we lost. Don’t forget to give me names and numbers of family members.”

She nodded.

“Where the hell have you been?” King whispered.

“Recon,” I said vaguely.

I technically wasn’t lying. I did do a little recon with Roman, but he didn’t need to know all the details of what I did.
