Aubree answered the door wearing baggy, light green sweats with flared legs, a white tee that stopped above her belly button, and white sneakers. Her hair was brushed up into a bun. Aside from lash extensions and lip gloss, her face was bare. She looked so damn good dressed down that my dick instantly hardened.

“Damn you look good.” My gaze trailed the length of her frame as I licked my lips.

Aubree’s nose scrunched, and she looked at me like I was crazy. “Ummm, the only way I could be more dressed down is if I had on pajamas. I was worried that you’d think I didn’t put in any effort, but my period is coming, and I’m bloated.”

“We’re going to the movies not a five-star restaurant. I want you to be comfortable. Dressed up or not, you’re still sexy.” I pecked her lips, and we walked to the car after she locked her door.

After opening the car door for her, I walked around and got in. “I saw a flyer in the gym, earlier. The event going on with all the races. You doing that?”

“I’m going to be out there for sure, but I’m not sure if I’m racing. I still have a week to decide. Registration ends in like eight days, but it was so lit last year. There’s going to be a DJ, food trucks, vendors, like a huge block party with racing added in.”

“How often do you race? Don’t think I didn’t hear about your victory last weekend.” I glanced over at Aubree and caught her grinning.

“I don’t race often at all, but an adrenaline rush is cool every now and then. And last weekend, I definitely needed an adrenaline rush.”

“It might be too soon to be expressing my opinion, but I don’t really like you racing. I’m not saying you shouldn’t, but that shit gon’ tear my nerves up every time.”

“I get it. That’s why I said I don’t do it often, but it’s fun when I do it. I’ve never been scared or come close to wrecking. It’s harmless fun.”

“I hear you.” I left it at that because I was always going to express myself, but I wasn’t coming in on some Debo type shit trying to tell her what she could and couldn’t do. Her racing was kind of sexy until I thought about something like her flipping her car.

The movie was pretty good, and we had fun. Even before I got locked up, I hadn’t taken the time to go to the movies often, so the movie theatres with real food like chicken and waffles and alcoholic drinks was new to me. It was expensive but worth it in my opinion.

“When is your period supposed to come?” I asked Aubree as we headed back to her house.

“In two days. Why?”

“So, we can do it tonight?” I tossed a hopeful glance her way making her laugh.

“Yes, we can do it tonight.”

Two nights later, me and the people in Cook’s section made the strippers aware that it was his birthday, and they were showing him extra love. I was throwing a little money, but I wasn’t touching or doing too much. I got some of Aubree’s pussy everychance I got, so I wouldn’t go crazy while her cycle was on. I waited six years for sex; I could damn sure wait six days. The strippers were nice to look at for sure, but it wasn’t going beyond that.

One of the servers came into the section with a bottle of tequila that had a lit sparkler on it. My eyes darted over the table. We already had two bottles of liquor. There were only four of us in the section. We were turned up having a good time, but another bottle might be overkill. Rather than putting it on the table, she walked over to me.

“This is a gift to you from a gentleman named Nice.”

I frowned slightly and shook my head. “You can take that back to him. I don’t want anybody giving me shit.”

“Oh okay.” Shorty looked confused, but it wasn’t meant for her to understand.

The day Nice got a little too touchy feely with Aubree, I knew he was pissed and sometimes when people were mad, they got a little fucked up. But the fly shit that was coming out his mouth, I’d never forget. Had I gone with my first mind, I wouldn’t have taken a brick from him. But I did. That was the end of accepting things, however. I damn sure wasn’t taking a funky ass bottle of alcohol from him. He must’ve thought I was one of his chicks. He couldn’t do lame shit to me and then redeem himself with some liquor. Fuck outta here.

Minutes later, Nice came over to the section and waved me over to where he was. I stood in place eyeing him for a second contemplating on whether or not I’d even entertain him. I wasn’t up for conversation. It was what it was, and the nigga could beat it.

After a brief stare off, Nice held his arms up as if saying, ‘come on man.’ I walked over to him with an indifferent expression on my face. The moment I was in front of him, he started pleading his case over the music.

“Bro, I was on one that day on the strip. I can admit I was out of pocket. I shouldn’t have come at you like that. You know I consider you family. I could never beef with you.”

His words didn’t really move me because despite him being cool with my brother, we’d never been friends. His so called allegiance to me was only because of Ish, and Ish was no more. I didn’t need fake or phony shit around me. It wasn’t any beef on my end either, but I was going to leave Nice where he’d always been. At a distance from me. He didn’t have to try and take Ish’s place. He didn’t need to look out for me or try to be what my brother would have been to me. He didn’t compare.

“You good,” I stated dryly. “No beef on my end.”

Nice bobbed his head with a grin. “I can dig you not taking the liquor. I wasn’t trying to son you. It was just a peace offering. Nothing more nothing less.”

“I’m already on my ass. Been drinking good all night. An extra bottle is just a waste of money.” With a curt nod, I ended the conversation. I damn sure wasn’t going to thank him for sending me a bottle like I was a fucking groupie. My cheeks lifted into a grin as a thought popped into my head.

I waved the same bottle girl over that tried to give me the tequila from Nice. “The guy that sent me the Azul, send him two bottles and put it on my tab.”
