“A name for an alpha,” Flo said.
“Really?” Ezer gasped. “Pete had the elusive alpha?”
They both nodded miserably.
“Why are you sad about it?” Ezer asked. “Isn’t Father over the moon?”
“He is, but…now he wants to breed Pete again, as soon as possible.”
“He’ll have to wait a year or two at least,” Ezer said. He knew this from his own conversation with the doctor by phone the other day. He’d called after the examination to check in, and Ezer had found he had more questions. It’d been a relief to hear he wasn’t going to be expected to birth two babies and then turn around and birth another right away. The doctor had said that would be very risky to his health.
“Yes, but in the meantime, Father wants to get rid of all the omegas in the house. He says when he gets home from the mountains, after Pete’s safely past the post-natal drop, he’s going to contract each of us off to an alpha, one by one.”
“He said he’d replace us with alphas with Pete.”
“Fuck him,” Ezer said. “He won’t do that.”
“Yes, he will,” Shan said. “He can and he will. Yissan is terrified. You know he’s never wanted to be contracted against his will, and now he has no time at all to find an alpha of his own choosing.”
“Well, tough for him,” Ezer said, a little bitterly. “At least he has some time to look. I wasn’t given that chance.”
“You’re naked,” Flo observed.
Ezer looked down at his bare chest. The growing swell wasn’t visible on the screen, but all omegas knew what it meant to be naked weeks after a heat. “Yeah,” Ezer said. “It’s weird. But I’m getting used to it.”
“Does he use you daily?” Shan asked, crowding onto the screen. “Is it horrible?”
Ezer frowned. He hadn’t realized Shan thought about sex with an alpha that way. “He doesn’tuseme,” Ezer explained. “We have sex. A lot more than daily. About every hour or so.”
Shan grimaced, but Flo was intrigued.
Ezer went on, “When he’s home, that is. He’s at school today, so I’m on my own for a bit.”
“School,” Flo said with a sigh. “I so wish Father had let you finish school.”
“Is he always horny? Your alpha? Does he demand it all the time?” Shan asked.
“He’s not like that. He’s not a bad person,” Ezer said of Ned. “He’s trying to be a good alpha. He’s young, though. Like me.”
“We know,” Flo said. “Father told us everything. After it was too late to do anything to help you, of course.”
Ezer was doubtful Flo or Shan would have gone out of their way for him. They still relied on their father too much, and they’d always thought Ezer brought trouble onto himself. “Well, it’s done now.”
“You’re pregnant?”
“With twins.”
Flo and Shan exclaimed in excitement. Ezer wasn’t surprised. They loved being twins, but they weren’t the ones facing the carrying of two, or the prospect of giving birth twice within a few minutes. “Did it hurt?” Shan asked quietly.
“What part?”
“Heat. Knotting.”
“All of it,” Flo said. “Any of it.”
“Um, well, it hurt my pride the most. Physically, it all feels really good.”
Shan wrinkled his nose, but Flo seemed intrigued. “How good?”
