My heart clenches at the resignation and loneliness saturating his every word. “Let’s say I had the power to grant you one wish, right here, right now. Anything your heart desires. What would you wish for?” I whisper, desperate to give him…something. Even if it’s just a moment of wistful pretending.
Logan’s gaze locks with mine, his sinful lips parting on a sharp inhale. Several moments tick by in charged silence as he wars with himself, the muscles of his neck corded with strain.
Finally, he wets his lips and rasps a single word. “Belonging.”
“‘Belonging’?” I echo, something hot and tight lodging itself in my chest. “Belonging…where?”
A bleak hint of melancholy dulls the vivid blue of his eyes before he blinks and shuts the emotion away. The glimpse of raw, aching vulnerability disappears, hidden once more behind his usual unreadable mask.
“Just forget I said anything. It doesn’t matter.” He pushes away from the table, his chair scraping across the tile with a harsh screech and straightens to his full imposing height. “I have some errands to run before tonight. I’ll see you later.”
And just like that, he strides away, his broad back rigid and his footsteps hurried. Fleeing before I can draw a breath to respond.
Chapter Nineteen
SLOANE
“Ithought you didn’t want to ride the London Eye?” I ask as he leads me toward the giant wheel glittering in the darkness.
“What I said is that I wasn’t willing to ride with other people and be stuck with them in a capsule. I rented the entire wheel just for us.”
“What?”
“We have half an hour alone,” he says as if renting out one of the biggest attractions in London for just the two of us is a given that happens every day. “And I intend to make the most of every minute.” His voice drops to a low timbre.
Oh fuck. Does he mean what I think he means? Is that why he asked me to wear a dress?
I follow him to the entrance, noticing the stares the staff are giving us. Unlike Logan’s indifferentdemeanor, they appear stunned. Clearly, they don’t witness this kind of scene every day.
“Welcome.” One of them greets us and opens the capsule door. “Enjoy.”
I grip the railing tightly as the capsule begins to move upward, and the twinkling lights of the city come into view. Logan stands behind me, pressing close. His hands start to roam over my body, caressing my hips, sliding down and creeping up my thighs.
“What are you doing?”
“What do you think I’m doing?”
“Someone will see us.” I squirm under his touch, but my heart is already beating faster.
“There’s no one here.”
“Cameras?”
“I took care of it.”
“The capsule is completely transparent.”
“No one will see you from this distance. We’re high above the city.”
He has an answer for everything.
“Tell me this doesn’t turn you on? Looking down on the city from above, in this glass capsule, all the people below going about their lives, having no idea what’s happening up here? Tell me it doesn’t excite you to know I’m going to fuck you in front of the entire city?” he whispers in my ear, his hand climbing higher until he’s almost touching my aching core. “If I checked right now, what would I find?”
I know exactly what he would find, and the fact that I’m breathing heavily gives me away. My clit throbs, demanding attention.
I wait, arching my back, his fingers so close, almost grazing the spot where I crave him most, but he removes his hands and takes a step back. I groan in frustration and turn around, only to find him standing behind me with a cool expression.
“You’re not going to follow through on your promise?”
