It took him a moment to run through their earlier conversation and pin down what she meant. “Love is never wrong?”

“That’s the one. As it happens, Ivy and I enjoy playing with others. We’ve never really discussed bringing a third into our relationship on a more permanent basis, though, so that’s going to take some navigating.”

“Oh.” A new kind of guilt settled in his stomach. “I don’t want to cause any problems with your relationship.”

Sitting up on his lap, Ivy pinned him with a stern look that was almost as impressive as Cordelia’s. “Did we say you were causing problems, Jacob?”

“No, but?—”

“Then don’t put words in our mouth, boy.” Though Cordelia’s words were like steel, there was a hint of a smile on her lips. “Opening our relationship to you isn’t a hardship. I’m sure there will be some stumbling along the way, but we’ll talk through it and figure it out. Together.”

He wanted to argue. To point out all the reasons it was wrong, all the reasons he was wrong for wanting them. But one look in Cordelia’s eyes was all it took to banish the urge. “Yes, Ma’am.”

“Good boy. As it happens, we’re all on the same page. You want us, we want you. But there are rules.”

“Rules, Ma’am?”

That hint of a smile widened, took on a sharp edge that had his stomach clenching in a not altogether unpleasant way. “Oh, yes, baby boy. Rules. You’ll learn I love rules.”

“She really does,” Ivy said with a giggle.

“First things first, your pleasure, just like Ivy’s, belongs to me. That means you keep your hands off that pretty cock of yours unless I specifically give you permission. Understood?”

“I-I think so, Ma’am.”

One pale eyebrow rose, and he swallowed hard against the lump in his throat. “Is there any part of that rule you don’t understand?”

“No, Ma’am. It’s more… I’ve always tried not to do… that, but sometimes I can’t help myself.”

“Oh, sweet boy. One of the most important things I want you to understand about these rules is that breaking them isn’t the end of the world.”

“But… won’t you be mad?”

Tilting her head to the side, she seemed to give the question serious consideration. “It depends on the rule,” she said slowly. “And more importantly, the reason it was broken. If it was just a momentary slip, I’ll be somewhat disappointed but not angry.”

Disappointed. The word sat heavy in his gut, and he had the fleeting thought he’d rather have her furious than disappointed.

“However, if you intentionally break a rule because you simply want to or you’re trying to get my attention or you’re feeling rebellious for whatever reason, that’s an entirely different story. There will be punishments either way, but the severity depends largely on the ‘why’ behind the infraction. Does that make sense?”

“Not really. If it’s wrong, it’s wrong. What does it matter why you did something?”

“May I, Ma’am?” Ivy asked softly from her perch on his lap.

“Yes, blossom. Explain away.”

Shifting, she looked up at him, and the band around his chest loosened at the understanding in those deep, dark depths. “It’s human nature to mess up sometimes, Jakey. To forget a rule until it’s too late, or to give into temptation. Nobody is going to be mad at you for being human. But choosing disobedience… That’s like telling us that you don’t think the rules are important. And maybe they don’t feel important in the moment, but every rule we have is either for your own well-being, or it’s meant to strengthen our relationship.”

“Which is this one?”

“The latter,” she said with a smile. “Knowing that my pleasure belongs to Cordelia and Cordelia alone adds another layer to our dynamic. I enjoy feeling owned, and she enjoys owning me. So even though it’s hard sometimes, I want to please her, so I obey. She knows that if I break a rule on purpose, it’s because I’m feeling very out of sorts or there’s something seriously wrong.”

“Or you’re just feeling bratty.” Cordelia’s tone took on a teasing edge as she grinned. “Which is perfectly okay, as long as you’re willing to accept the consequences for said brattiness. But there are certain rules I won’t allow you to break just because you’re feeling bratty. Usually rules around your own safety, like making sure you eat, drink enough water, and wear your seatbelt. Ivy can tell you that you absolutely do not want to break a safety rule. Isn’t that right, blossom?”

Ivy’s cheeks turned such a bright red they could probably light the room if they turned the lights off. “Yes, Daddy. Um, breaking a health or safety rule is definitely a big no-no. The one and only time I intentionally broke one I got a really hard spanking and a week of no orgasms. It was the worst.”

“But you never did it again, did you, baby?”

“No, Daddy.”
