Jaewoong, on his way toward the stairs to the baptismal, wolf whistled at them. “Get a room.”
Jun gave him a middle finger, not breaking the kiss. Damian grabbed Jun by his hips and pushed him back against the altar.
Damian
It was mid-February before the Parsonage was ready for Yohei, Armada, and Habibi to move in. Jaewoong had insisted on joining Yohei, so both of them were living downstairs in the old front office as the upstairs wasn’t ready for habitation. The last stepping stone had been the temporary custody hearing. The family law lawyer had secured a court date after Armada’s eighteenth birthday, and Damian had cleared his schedule one cold morning and gone down to the courthouse with her, Anna and Cedric, and May. Because they were only seeking temporary custody arrangements and social services were in agreement, it was a straightforward proceeding. Dalia didn’t show, which led to an almost automatic judgment against her. The criminal case for her assault and battery on Armada wouldn’t happen until March. Thaddeus’s trial was unlikely to take place until April. There had been more DNA tests, which had proven Armada’s claims about their relations. There was a good chance the prosecutors were pushing for a plea deal. As long as neither Dalia nor Thaddeus got their hands on any of the kids, Damian didn’t care.
Armada cried as they left the courthouse, hugging Habibi to her chest. “He’s ours.” The custody was joint. Damian was legally responsible for them in partnership with Armada for Habibi, May for Betti, and Cedric and Anna for Kimbo and Rue.
“He’s ours.” Damian’s chest expanded a little. There was the pressure of responsibility but also a drop of justice finally being served, at least for the moment. Habibi made a noise and reached for Damian’s nose. He gave the little boy his finger instead. Habibi cooed and promptly tried to put Damian’s finger in his mouth.
Armada offered him one of his chew toys. “He’s going to have what we didn’t.”
Damian nodded.
With the custody worked out temporarily, they were able to give up the hotel rooms. Armada moved into the Parsonage that night. Anna and Cedric picked Kimbo and Rue up from school and took them home for the first time. It was a tight fit in their one-bedroom apartment, but they would move as soon as possible. Cedric had accepted the security position on the church site. They were looking at which part of the property to renovate for him and his family.
May took Betti home to be with Ruby.
Jun grinned at Damian as they cleaned the last of their things out of the hotel. “Hey, DaSu.”
“What?” Damian was on his hands and knees, fishing some of Rue’s toys out from under a bed. She and Kimbo managed to get their things everywhere. He’d give it back when he saw her next.
Jun smirked, leaning over the bed. “Let’s go home.”
Damian grinned back. “You mean The Residency.”
Jun’s eyes sparkled. “Yeah. Got something to show you.”
Damian raised an eyebrow. “Is it finished?”
Jun waggled his eyebrows. “Guess you’ll have to see.” He sauntered away, swinging his hips in an abbreviated dance move, giving Damian a taste of what he was capable of.
Jun
Jun turned in a full circle inside the remodeled lounge. “I think we’re done.”
Collin grinned.
The Residency was officially taking a three-day weekend. It was the last day of February, a Thursday, just over two months since Jun had come to The Residency, and the lounge was finally finished. The bed—the same ridiculously soft one—was made up with both Bear and Téméraire settled on the pillows. Damian’s new office space was by the windows on the far end. There were closets by the entrance to the bathroom at the back. Facing the bed, in the back corner, was the cave, the centerpiece of the private space.
The curtains down the center of the lounge were pulled back, leaving the bedroom area open to the seating area with the two couches and two chairs. The TV was currently recessed inside one of the tables that looked like a couch console, invisible until needed. Everything was done in soft beige and whites in the background and strong colors to the foreground, like the brown and green covering over the cave and the forest-green bedspread. A red and gold rug lay at the foot of the bed, and pops of jewel tone pillows and blankets accented the couches. The new curtains for the windows were pulled back, giving a sweeping view on two sides to the city.
It was beautiful. Jun grinned back at Collin.
Collin bounced a little on the balls of his feet, a man satisfied. “Are you going to get Damian?”
Jun nodded. “What about Richard and Émeric?”
“You don’t want to show him alone?”
“We all did this. We should all be here.”
Collin nodded. He pulled out his phone. “Émeric is cooking. Richard is almost home. No, he is home. He texted a minute ago.”
“I’ll get Damian.” Jun opened the door, almost running into Richard. “Hey!”
Richard nodded, stepping back. “Do you know where Collin is?”
