“I’ll leash up Moose before we go out again. He had a hair in his nose. Way easier than drool being caught.” Brenden chuckled, and Moose barked.

“Yeah, be careful. What if it had rabies? The light sure made it run.” Wait. Wasn’t it rabies came out in the light? What the heck hid from it?

“Okay. I’ll bring the Super Soaker out when I walk Moose in a few.” Brenden stepped aside to let him in.

“Yeah, just because, huh? I’d hate for something to bite you and make you rabid.”

“Oh God, me too. And I would never forgive myself if Moose got hurt.” Brenden touched his arm. “You okay?”

“Yeah. Yeah, maybe aching a little, but I don’t regret it. Kissing you was… damn.” Even the weird thing in the yard couldn’t erase the feeling Brenden had given him.

“I want to do it again, but I guess you need to get to bed. They’re pushing you to come in.”

“Yeah. Tomorrow is Sunday, though, so maybe you’re free in the evening?”

“I think I might be.” Brenden checked the kitchen door before giving him one last lingering kiss. “Okay, harness and leash for Moose, water gun for me.”

“Sounds good. I’m going to go take a shower.” And jack off, remembering those kisses. He was damn inspired.

“Good night.” That smile would only add to his fantasy. God.

“Night, Brenden.” He was so disappointed they got interrupted, but they needed to shut it down for the night.

He headed up the stairs, then stopped to check in on Brittany. “Okay, kiddo?”

“Yeah. I’m sorry your drink spilled.”

“That’s all right. You just surprised me.” He chuckled because he wasn’t mad, and God, that was embarrassing.

“I love you, Daddy. Dinner was good.”

“It was.” He bent to kiss her forehead. “I love you too. Sleep well.”

“Good night.” She hugged him tight. “You want to listen to a chapter ofHarry Potterwith me?”

“I do.” He had time. For his kids he always did.

“Me too.” She pulled up the blanket, and he slid in, settling his girl next to him.

She turned on the audiobook, and he leaned back, closing his eyes and smiling. This was the good stuff. The whole night had been.

Well, maybe not the fight with Susanna.

Still… he’d take it. Every bit.

Chapter Four

“ISDaddy gonna be home for supper?” Britt asked. She sat at the table working on her homework while Brenden chopped carrots and celery to go in with the pot roast.

“I don’t know, kiddo. I want to make something that will keep in case he has to stay late.” He knew he’d been lucky with Liam being home as much as he had since Brenden started work. Liam had already texted this afternoon to tell him to go ahead and feed the kids, not to wait for him.

Brenden figured he wouldn’t hold supper, but he would stay up in hopes of having a beer together. He really enjoyed their late evenings together, talking and having munchies and maybe making out a little.

They never got beyond that, thanks to the kids or Moose or the damn raccoon out there at night, but they were getting really good at the kissing.

He grinned a little while he slid the veggies in with the beef.

“Do you like Daddy?” Britt asked.
