“Cool.” Kylie gave her a quick kiss, which surprised the hell out of her, and they headed out.

Brittany grinned. Her mood was improving fast.

Who knew where she’d be by the end of the night?

Eleven

“Ineed to get back to work,” Kylie told the doctor when she went in for her check-up. She was chafing at the damn bit, because the summer season was passing her by, and dammit, she was making her salary for helping around the office and shit, but she counted on her summer tips to do things like maintenance to the condo and pay for dog walking, which needed to happen or the damn mutt would eat the house…

“Well, you have another week, at least. Then you can wrap it up tight and maybe get back in a raft.”

“Shit.” At her look, she grinned. “Sorry, Doc. I’m starting to get stir-crazy. Liz has me on light duty, I’m sick of sitting with my foot up, and this is affecting my love life.” Brit was really sweet, but she was treating Kylie like she was made of glass still.

“Well, I have to admit, you’ve done well letting it heal up. But you could reinjure it very easily.”

“Okay. Okay. I’ll be good.” She sighed reaching for her crutches.

“I’ll compromise and put you in a walking boot, okay? I still want you to use the crutches, but you can start putting a little weight on it.”

“Woo.” She chuckled. “I’ll take it.”

“I bet. Okay. I’ll see you back in two weeks.”

“Okay. Thanks, Doc.” She waited after he left to get the walking boot, then headed out.

Popped up on her phone, and she turned her sound back on before texting Danielle, who was a friend not involved in any way with the rafting. Thank God. She could totally use a beer with someone who wasn’t all about her work.

Came back, and she sent back a thumbs up. She could do that.

Then she texted Brit.

She knew Brit should be off the river, but she still had some work to do, most likely. Raft maintenance and all.

Damn. Okay. Well, she’d said she wanted to do stuff with someone not at work, right? So it was no big deal if she and Brittany went their separate ways for the evening.

she texted back. She wanted to ask if Brit would be up to spend the night, but was that really any of her business? No.

So she hit Cherry’s, crutch walking in. Putting weight on her foot was a lot harder than she’d expected, but it would get easier as she got strength built up again.

“Hey, Ky!” One of the servers bustled over. “How many?”

“So far just Danielle and her lady and me.” Who knew how many would show up along the way, but Danielle was the only one on the text string.

“I’ll make sure you can add on if you want.” She got a wink, and a table where she didn’t have to go up and down any of the weird steps all over the restaurant.

“Hey, girl.” Danielle and Vicki came in, both of them sliding into their seats and grinning at her.

“Hey. Man, this was a good idea.” She was happy to not be at home. Alone.

“It was! I could so have a beer.” Vicki settled in. “It has been a long damn week.”

“I hear you.” She pulled back to show them her foot.

“I heard about that!” Danielle said.

“Small towns.” Kylie chuckled. “Man, it hurt at the time.”
