She tore her eyes away from Spencer and stepped back out of his dangerous orbit. “Yeah?”

“Gabe is about to feed the kids if you’d like to go help him.”

She walked away without another word. No one would be honest with her, but she’d find answers somehow. And she wasn’t going to miss feeding baby goats to argue with Spencer.

Anger coursed through her as she hopped the fence into the goat pen and entered their little barn. Gabe sat on the floor with a kid in his lap and a bottle in his hand.

Yes, goats were what she needed to calm down.

A horn bumped her hand, and she looked down to find Stammer. “Hey, buddy.”

Sitting across from Gabe, she let Stammer lay beside her.

Hadley no longer trusted the Lees, but she couldn’t shake the feeling this was where she needed to be.
