“I know you will, son.” He turned to Hadley. “We’re sending you three to the farmers’ market today. The truck is all loaded and waiting. You need to be there setting up in half an hour.”
“Who is the third?” she asked.
“Damien. I think he’s in the barn if you want to go find him.” He tipped his hat and walked away.
Spencer slid down and pulled Toby toward the barn. “Damo, you here?”
A crash sounded from the office at the far end. Spencer gestured for Hadley to follow him as he put Toby in his stall. He’d get Gabe to deal with unsaddling him and feeding him.
“Damien?” He stepped through the office, freezing in his tracks.
Beside him, Hadley gasped.
Damien had Gabe pinned against the wall, kissing him.
It shouldn’t have surprised Spencer. He’d come home to be there for his brother when he was struggling with something so huge. But Gabe?
At least it meant the guy wasn’t trying to get with Hadley.
He chastised himself for the thought and cleared his throat, his face heating.
Damien ripped himself away from Gabe, whirling around with wide eyes. His shoulders relaxed in relief when he saw it was Spencer.
“I thought you were Dad.”
“I could have been.” Spencer crossed his arms, his eyes fixing on Gabe. “How long has this been going on?”
Damien flicked his eyes to Hadley, but she already saw them together, so Spencer didn’t make her leave.
“Um.” Gabe kicked at the ground. “A few weeks.”
Spencer grunted. “Okay then. Let’s go. We’re going to be late to the market.” He turned on his heel and hurried away.
Hadley ran after him. “That’s all you’re going to say to your brother?”
“What else should I say? Want me to threaten Gabe or something? Damien can take care of himself.”
“But he’s… aren’t you surprised?”
“I already knew.” He left the barn behind and crossed to his dad’s truck. Jars of jams and crates of fruit were stacked in the back.
Damien came out of the barn straightening his shirt. He wiped a stupid grin from his face and joined them.
“We ready to go?”
Spencer laughed at his nonchalance, as if they hadn’t just caught him lip locked with Gabe.
Hadley sputtered. “Dudes, this is big news.”
Damien shrugged. “You’re one of the few people who know I’m gay. Congratulations.”
“No, I just meant it’s big to find out you’re dating Gabe. He’s completely adorable, and I’m incredibly proud of you and only a little bit jealous.”
Spencer shook his head, trying to figure this girl out.
Damien laughed. “All right, the Hadley I know has a million questions.” He climbed into the back seat of the truck. “Out with them.”
Hadley hauled herself in behind him. “Blonds are more fun, am I right?” She held her fist out in celebration of Gabe’s hair.
