He stopped singing and sat up in his bed. “Next time, wake me up before you leave so I can be the first person to wish you a happy birthday.”

The blanket fell into his lap, revealing his naked chest. She covered her eyes. “Dude, put some clothes on.”

Damien chuckled beside her.

Roman shrugged. “Flaunt it if you’ve got it.”

“Never say that again or I’m hanging up.”

“No! I miss you.”

She laughed. “Only because I’m awesome. But really, stop being lazy and go do something.”

“I’m just letting you live vicariously through me on your birthday by staying in bed.”

“How chivalrous of you. I’m going now. Damien, Spencer, and I are on barn duty.” Damien was right. It did make you sound like you were working.

Roman grinned. “Ooh, Spencer is the cute one, right?”

She glanced sideways at Spencer who’d sat stiff through the entire conversation. “Bye, Rome.” She hung up and handed Damien back his phone.

Damien couldn’t stop laughing, his face going bright red.

“Do you live with that guy?” Spencer asked.

“Roman? Yeah.”

Spencer stood with a grunt and walked into the back office.

Hadley was about to go after him when Gabe came running back into the barn. “The goats escaped!”

Hadley jumped to her feet as Spencer returned at a run.

“What do you mean?” he growled.

Gabe’s eyes were wide. “I just went to feed the kids, and they somehow managed to get the pen open. I don’t know how long they’ve been gone. We’re missing about six of them.”

Hadley swallowed. “Stammer?”

Gabe nodded.

“We have to find them.”

“We will,” Spencer assured her.

For once, they were on the same side.
