Was Sebastian friends with all her teachers?

Gross.

Once inside, Sebastian shut the door. There were no windows in the tiny room, and she wondered if the shut door was okay.

She also wondered if she cared.

Sebastian set his bag beside the brushed metal desk that took up half the room. A bookshelf sat next to it, and Wylder busied herself perusing the spines.

"See anything you like?" Sebastian asked.

When she turned to him, she found him sitting on the corner of his desk, one ankle over the other and his arms crossed over his chest. A smirk took up residence on his annoyingly attractive face.

This man... He wasn't Mr. Cook at all.

Yes, she wanted to answer. She saw something she liked very much. Instead, she realized it was better to get this bad grade business over with and get out of here. "About my test."

"Ah, that." He uncrossed his arms. "I wanted to talk to you about it."

"Yeah, you didn't like my essays."

"Because they were wrong."

Now it was her time to cross her arms. "No, they weren't."

"Wylder, you wrote about the greatest theme inRomeo and Julietbeing death."

"Because they both died."

"Yes, but that wasn't the point of the play. They died because they loved each other so much they couldn't live in a world without the other, because their families were determined to pull them apart."

"That's stupid. No love is worth that."

"To them, it was. The three themes of the play were family, conflict, and love. We went over those in the group discussion. Yet you chose death as a theme to write about."

"Because it's a stupid love anyway. Romeo is way too old for her. It's kind of creepy actually. You can't fall in love when you're that young."

"And how old do you think you have to be?"

"I don't know. Like fifty."

His lips parted into a smile. "Would you like to retake the test?"

She looked down at her feet. "Are you only offering because you feel sorry for me?"

"No. I'm going to offer the chance to everyone who didn't get the grade they liked. The school makes me test on the summer reading, but it's not fair to you all since we've spent so much time on our other reading list."

"The good one." Her lips curved up.

He put a finger under her chin and tilted her face so she had no choice but to look at him. "Yes, the good one. I knew you'd like those books."

"How?"

"What?"

"Bash... Sebastian... What happened this summer... It started so quickly and then ended just as fast. We don't really know anything about each other. It's probably a good thing since you're my teacher now." She couldn't help thinking of Logan and the secrets of hers he now held, secrets she'd never considered telling Sebastian.

"Yes, it's probably a good thing." He went silent for a long moment. "But you're wrong, you know."
