"Sounds like a you problem," she muttered under her breath while giving him a sweet smile.

He leaned down, those gorgeous eyes pinning her in her seat. "See me after your classes finish for the day."

Yeah, right. As he returned to the front of the room, she promised herself she wouldn't allow them to be alone together again. Plus, after classes, she had a practice session with Logan, and surprisingly, he was the Cook brother she'd rather hang out with.

Logan didn't want anything from her, and it was refreshing. Every time Sebastian looked at her, she felt like he'd suck her soul right out of her body. And she intended to keep it right where it was.

"I just don't understand why you won't sing again." Wylder crossed her arms over her chest, her eyes trained on Logan. They stood on stage in the school's auditorium during their scheduled practice slot. No one else was there to watch them.

"You wouldn't get it." Logan crossed the stage and sat down on one of two stools they'd moved to the center.

"Yeah?" She followed him. "I wouldn't get feeling like you'd lost the music? Or not being able to do the one thing that makes you happy?"

"Youchosenot to play drums anymore."

She softened her voice as she sat next to him. "I saw your face when you sang. You loved it, Logan. You love messing around on the keyboard and writing these stupid lyrics. Music is in your blood, just like it is mine." She hadn't brought up her suspicions with him, but now wasn't the time.

"Look." She shoved her phone at him. "I know you were struggling to finish the instrumental parts, but I did it. Or, at least part of it. It's rough, but I think it works. I paired the vocal you recorded the other day with it." She hit play, and their song came through the speakers of her phone.

Logan sat completely still as the drums led way into a piano part she'd created with the program on her computer. "You'll fix that with your keyboard."

But he didn't respond, instead listening to the entire song. He sat so still she wasn’t sure if he was even breathing.

"I know it's probably not good." Wylder hit stop before it played again. "Lyrics are more my wheelhouse, well, that and the drum piece."

"I thought you didn't play drums anymore." It wasn't what she'd expected him to say.

"Oh, I don't." She shoved her phone in her pocket.

"Sounds to me like you do."

She lifted one shoulder in a shrug. Truth be told, it had felt good, and her fingers itched for her drumsticks, wanting to feel that rush of adrenaline again. Playing over the weekend was like coming home after too long away. Beckett was right. She’d needed it.

"You're good." Logan's voice was so quiet she almost didn't catch his words. "Watching those videos, I could see you had talent, but just now, Ifeltit."

She stood, needing some space. "I thought you were supposed to despise me."

"And I thought we'd agreed to be friends."

"Yeah, but that was before..." Before he'd caught her with Sebastian, before he knew the truth.

He was quiet for a long moment. "Did you think we'd go back to fighting every day because of you and Bash?"

"I don't know." She lowered herself to the edge of the stage and sat with her legs hanging over. A sea of blue velvet seats spread out before her in high tiers, spanning all the way to the back wall. Soon, they’d be filled with students come to watch her fall flat on her face. She'd never imagined Beckett putting her in this class would lead her back to the stage, but here she was.

Logan's footsteps sounded behind her before he sat, his shoulder bumping hers. "I'm used to Sebastian's... I'm just used to Sebastian."

"What does that even mean?"

"Okay, so, two years ago, we were on tour with Luke and things got a little... crazy. Sebastian was only twenty-one but he'd already had custody of us for three years. There was this girl, this dancer. Her name was Christina. Luke had a thing for her, but she fell for Sebastian. Hard. We all knew it wouldn't end well because Sebastian, as good as he's always been to me and Luke, has some issues. First, he never stays with a girl for long."

"But he told me—"

"Let me guess. That you guys could be together until you graduated and then didn't have to hide it anymore."

She nodded.
