"Okay. Holograms only it is. You and I will be behind a screen, just the two of us. Beckett and Nicky will be here. I can ask them to help with our staging. The song starts off with a slow beat. I know that's unusual, that most songs start with more of a guitar sound, but being that we won't have a guitar, I figured we could do something different."

"I liked what you played, Wylder. Don't second-guess it. I can smooth out the keyboard part."

"And we're both singing." If she was doing this, so was he.

He hesitated a moment, looking like he wanted to find a way out of this. Finally, he sighed. "Okay."

"Yes." Her arms shot in the air like she'd just scored the winning goal. Maybe she had. Getting Logan to sing with her, to perform their song was a surefire way to ace this project.

She just hoped Diego came through for them. With the hologram dancers, this would be epic.

"Ready to run through it?" she asked.

Logan retrieved the two mics the school's resident a/v guy had let them sign out. They didn't have her drums or his keyboard with them, so they'd have to sing along to the track. Not ideal, but better than nothing.

Wylder wrapped her fingers around a microphone and flipped it on before tapping the name of the auditorium's sound system on her phone and hitting play. The song drifted out over the speakers, and Wylder held up her notebook in front of them both. They'd have to memorize their lyrics soon.

When the keyboard came in, Wylder started on the first verse, smiling when Logan joined her. They moved through the song slowly, slightly off from the pace of the music, but it would be tightened up once they practiced more.

It was hard to tell on stage, but she thought they sounded good together. Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Logan shot her a tentative smile as they dove into the chorus for the second time.

The door opening at the back of the hall caught Wylder's attention, and a familiar man walked in, stopping when he looked to the stage. Logan's voice faltered and dropped as soon as he saw his brother.

He jumped from the stage and charged down the aisle.

Wylder raced after him, but she wasn't fast enough.

"You shouldn't be here, Bash." Logan's voice was tight.

"You were singing. On stage." There was an accusation in his words Wylder didn't understand.

"It's for a project." Logan stopped when he reached Sebastian. "I don't have a choice."

"You should tell them you can't."

"Youput me in this class, brother. This is your fault just as much as mine."

"Wait," Wylder stepped in. "Why are we talking faults? Is Logan not supposed to perform?"

As if seeing her for the first time, Sebastian turned to glare at her. "Of course you'd be involved. You can't help getting him in trouble."

"I don't like your tone, Mr. Cook." She crossed her arms and planted her feet hip-width apart. "Getting him in trouble by completing a school project? For once I'm doing what I was told to do."

"No one told you to meddle."

"Meddle in what?" Was this the same guy who'd tried convincing her to get into a secret relationship only days ago? Now, he looked like he'd never want to kiss her again. "I don't understand."

"Of course you don't."

"Bash," Logan warned. "Stop."

"Stop doing what? Looking out for you and Luke?"

Logan shut up at that and took a step back. Did he agree with him?

"What are you doing here, Bash?" Wylder sighed.
