“Okay.” She pushed out a breath. “It is the middle of the workday, and I have a mountain of things to do. So, Drew, you called this impromptu meeting. You start.”

“None of us have heard from Noah.” It was a point of pride that Melanie saw true worry in Drew Stone’s eyes. None of these guys—and gal—had liked each other when she first forced them together.

Jo, looking more worried than any of them, rested her head in her hands. “He hasn’t even called me. Me! Something is wrong, Mel. We’ve known it for days.”

“What are we going to do about it?” Ben Evans stared into the camera.

Only Dax Nelson stayed quiet, but she could tell by the tension in his face even the unshakeable Dax was worried.

Melanie brushed a hand through her blonde hair and closed her eyes for a minute, trying not to let her own nerves overcome her. They were right. Something was wrong with Noah, and she needed to find him. If she didn’t… “Okay, I’m going to do some digging. I’ll start by reaching out to Ava Sinclair.” She cringed at the thought of contacting the model who’d been caught with Noah.

“What can we do?” Drew asked.

“Nothing.”

Ben started to protest, but Melanie held up a hand. “Ben, you should be in the studio right now. Drew, you’re on tour. Dax, no matter how much power with the label you think you have, you can’t keep delaying the collaborations we’ve set up. And Jo…”

“I know.” Jo sighed, gesturing to her belly. “I can’t leave my freaking apartment.”

“Well.” Drew smirked. “You could. No one is keeping you there. You just don’t want people to know yet.”

She threw a Cheeto at her screen, and Drew laughed.

“Hanging up.” Melanie gave them a long look. “I’ll keep you guys updated.”

She got off the call and a second later pressed her intercom to talk to her assistant. “Hey, Henry, can you find me the number for Ava Sinclair’s representation?”

* * *

Ava Sinclair had been a bust.

Well, not entirely. She knew where Noah was, Melanie was sure of it. But she wouldn’t tell her. Instead, she said Noah liked to keep his family life away from his professional one. As far as Melanie knew, Noah didn’t have much family. He’d never spoken of them.

Something didn’t sit right with her.

She tried to go back to work, but she couldn’t get Noah off her mind. Pulling out her cell, she dialed his number knowing it would go to voicemail.

His familiar British purr came over the line. “Leave me a message and don’t be bloody boring about it. Unless it’s Ben because I know you can’t help it.”

She smiled despite the nerves twisting her stomach. “Hey, Noah.” She sighed, unsure of what to say. “We’re all worried about you.” Pause. “I’mworried about you. If you want me to be able to get any work done at all, you’ll call me back. I just need to know you’re okay. Please. It doesn’t matter the time. Just… I need to hear from you.” She hated how desperate she sounded as she hung up and leaned her forehead on her keyboard.

“Sweetie?” Her dad scooted into her office.

She lifted her head to look at him. “Hey.”

“Did you sleep at all last night?”

Did he want the truth or the answer that would make him worry less? She hadn’t been able to close her eyes without seeing either Justin or Noah, one a husband she lost and the other nothing more than a client. A client she couldn’t shake this worry for. “I’m okay, Dad.” It was the simplest answer.

He took the empty seat near her desk. “I’ve learned to see through the ‘I’m okay’ look over the last ten years.”

That was just it. Sheshouldbe okay. She could barely even remember Justin’s voice anymore. It shouldn’t hit her as hard as it had the night before. Maybe it was the letters. If her dad knew about them, that she kept Justin’s memory alive by writing to him, he’d tell her that wasn’t healthy. That it wasn’t okay to live in the past.

He was one to talk.

“Fine, Iwillbe okay.”

“That’s better. Henry tells me you spoke to Ava Sinclair today?”
