I raised my hand, and Axel scoffed.
I’m already the bad guy. What’s one more sin?
When we arrived, we got out one by one–Our steps heavy as we made our way inside. My heart kicked into overdrive. We could let her go, but that thought died the second we turned the corner.
Oak and our Omega were on the couch. Her head rested on his chest, eyes closed in sleep. The love of my life had his arms wrapped around her protectively, and his grip only tightened as I stepped into the room. His gaze locked with mine.
At what point had I become the enemy?
TWENTY-THREE
The black SUV reversed and peeled out like they were being chased. The corner of my lip twitched. They’d seen Val. I puckered my lips and made kissing noises as I watched them disappear. My irritation flared when I failed to scrub the blood off. The corner of my lip curled as I thought of the woman I just killed. So jumpy.Val knew what I liked, and that gave her power over me. In exchange for her requests, she did what I liked. She did what she was supposed to and sometimes met my needs. My cock stirred at the memory of what we’d done last time–things society says alphas shouldn’t like.
How the fuck were they still alive?
Pack ‘Oblivious’ never mastered the art of flying under the radar. Not only had I caught them hiding in plain sight, but they didn’t even see me. But I guess I can’t expect everyone else to be on my level. I threw the wipes in the black bag I had for special occasions and threw it on the ground. Now, for the question rolling around my head.
To tell or not to tell Val?
I leaned forward and drummed my fingers on the dash. I weighed my options as I stared at my inked knuckles. There were no benefits to telling her. I’d get a screeching banshee. Hardpass. The scales weren’t tipped in her favor, and it would be more fun not to.
What’s the worst that could happen?
Recently, Val had been a bitch. More so than usual. She’d been insufferable ever since her sister was placed with a pack. The same sister none of us were allowed to see or talk about. On top of that, we weren’t getting any, and unlike with Jace, Kells, and Zade, I wasn’t going to beg for sex. Jace was always up for a good time. He liked having an omega dependent on us, but while we called this a pack, she hadn’t given us any sign of wanting to make it official. Zade liked how her ass squeezed his cock when she came. That and the way she looked in those tight spandex when we worked out.
We all had one thing keeping us together: Val. Kells was a good kid who deserved more than this, but it wasn’t her pussy that held his interest. Helovedher. He had big puppy dog eyes whenever she was around. I swear he came in his pants every time she gave him a morsel of attention. That was the thing about Val. She wanted to be put on a pedestal and worshipped. The bigger the man, the more turned on she was. Sadly for Kells, he was the smallest of the pack. Dirty blonde hair and ocean blue eyes made him look like he belonged on a beach somewhere with a surfboard.
I thought I loved her too, but after the incident a couple of months ago, I knew the truth. Val wasn’t mine. With each passing day, my disgust grew. It played on repeat in my head for weeks. Whatever I’d seen in her had fizzled out. Boredom kept me around.
Now that Rath and his stupid pack had shown their face, things would get interesting. I wouldn’t want to rob everyone of a good time. This would be my little secret. I hopped out of the truck and slung/threw my backpack over my shoulder. They knew what we did, and I’d have to keep an eye on Val to makesure I didn’t miss the next time they came around. I wouldn’t let their stalking go without doing a bit of my own.
Months of nothing from them, and they just show up?
The doors opened, and I stepped into the gym. Working out after hours was the best–no one to bother us. Kells jogged up to meet me. I dropped my stuff, yanked off my hoodie, and caught the gloves he tossed my way.
“What took you so long?” he asked as he shifted from one foot to the other.
“Had some business to take care of,” I muttered, cracking my knuckles.
“She was wondering where you were. You know she notices when you’re missing,” he started. He looked over his shoulder, and when he confirmed she wasn’t listening, he continued. “She doesn’t like it when you’re with other people.”
“Last I checked, we weren’t an official pack. I don’t need to report to her where I go or who I fuck,” I hissed.
He flinched back, and for a split second, I almost felt bad.Fucking hell.
Jace was busy spotting Val, who was lifting five-pound barbells like they might break her. I turned my gaze back to Kells.
“I know, but you feel like pack. If I keep trying. . . bulking up, I’ll stop holding us back.” The hope in his eyes was sickening.
I doubted it, but I wasn’t going to kick the puppy while he was down.
“You’re not holding anyone back.”
Kells swallowed, and I was thankful when Zade started making his way toward us. His copper skin glistened, veins popped out of his ripped arms, and his shorts hung low on his hips.
“Ready?” He smirked.
“To kick your ass again? Anytime.”
