In a few minutes, he wouldn’t care. I can’t wait to see the look on his face when he realizes I found her. He flipped the switch, and a dim light filled the space just outside the cell. There isn’t a single window down here, and there are loops for chains scattered through the space.

“Please, don’t leave me,” she whispered. “I’m afraid of the dark.” Her body trembled, and I almost believed her. I ran my hand through my hair as Oak stomped up to me before he dug his finger into my chest.

“I need answers, Alpha,” he huffed angrily. I turned from the bitch and faced him.

“I bought you a present, Oak,” I hummed before walking out of the cell. I grabbed the chain I’ve had in mind since she stepped out of her car and dragged it behind me. Her disgusting scent soured further.

As I stopped by her side, I wrapped the collar around her neck until it clicked. The excess chain dropped. I took a knee and hooked it to the loop in the ground. The little monster was right where I wanted her. Straightening, I yanked the bag off. My Beta’s eyes widened as they locked on her face, and his mouth dropped open.

“No,” he whispered as he took a step back. “How?”

“I found her. I would have brought her sooner, but she was never alone. . . until today.”

“What are we supposed to do with her?” Oak asked.

“Anything we want,” I murmured. His eyes darkened as he stared down at her. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and shook his head. As if shaking the depraved thoughts from his mind.He wants revenge. I know he does.

“We can’t do this,” Oak murmured. Kind hazel eyes stared back at me.

“We can. That night still haunts you. I’ve held you while you’ve begged the Gods. They didn’t hear your prayers, but I did,” I seethed.

He flinched. It was a sore subject, one he still hadn’t opened up about with the pack. Oak had been with Lennox, the previous leader of our pack, and Kim, our omega, when they died. He’d been useless against the Alpha’s command. With Lennox gone, he’d been forced to watch them kill her.

“There is arightway of doing things. This. . . this isn’t that,” he whispered.

“I refuse to wait on a system that isn’t going to do its job,” I rasped.

“You work for that system! It’s your job to uphold the law. What you’re doing right now… it breaches every oath you’ve sworn. I don’t want you to do something you can’t reverse,” Oak pleaded.

“I haven’t been the same since they died. They took Lennox. This bitch. You haven’t seen what I have. Look me in the eye, Beta, and tell me you don't want to make her hurt like they made us hurt,” I growled.

She sobbed as the door banged open. The sound of rushed footsteps echoed down the hall. I knew who it was before he came into view. Recognized his emotions and scent instantly. Releasing her, I turned as his large frame pushed through the doorway. Chestnut hair, a strong Roman nose, and stern brown eyes glared at me. Our Alpha looked like a gladiator, but I knew he was King. His gaze darted to Oak, then to the woman on her knees.

“Why don’t I know what the fuck is going on here?” Kane growled.

Turning from him, I stared down at the whore. Her hair is up in a messy bun with strands stuck to her face. An unmistakable handprint formed on her swollen cheek. She was a siren calling me beneath the surface with the promise of death. Her small Omega body screamed for our attention. My instincts demanded I take care of her and obey her every whim, instead of keeping her chained here. Facing Kane, the only bit of light highlighting his features, and with one look, I knew: He feels the same.

Rath sneered down at a female curled on the cement ground. Her clothes were torn, and scratches adorned her brown skin. He swiped to grab her, but I lunged, gripping the back of his neck to pull him back. His perversions weren’t anything I ever got involved with, but the female trembled, her eyes peeled wide as her chest pumped.

My gaze snagged on her parted lips. Pink, plump, and damp. Would her nipples look the same after I sucked them into my mouth? I clenched my teeth with an audible click and a sharp rumble vibrating in my throat. Her bitter scent filled my nose, stinging.

I squeezed the back of Rath’s neck. The need to keep him in line coursed through my veins. He exhaled, and I rubbed my thumb along my mark on the side of his throat.

I kept my eyes on his. His emotions filtered to me, the anger turning into bitterness. The flood of emotion told me everything I needed to know. Rath had been hiding shit from us, blocking his end of the bond to keep his moves quiet.

“What is this?” I barked, shoving Rath away. He staggered, catching himself with a smooth movement. He smiled so wide, it was almost a baring of teeth. He kept his mouth shut like theasshole he was. I growled warningly. I could force him to spit it out?—

A whimper cut me off. The woman.

I crouched, eyeing the girl.

Dark tresses danced around her heaving shoulders, marred with tangles of thread from a burlap sack. Other than a few nicks and the blooming bruise on her cheekbone, she seemed whole and healthy.

“Before you pass judgment on the situation, hear Rath out, Alpha,” Oak murmured. I slid him a glare, and he pressed his lips into a thin line.

All this fucking ‘hearing others out’ bullshit got on my nerves. I never wanted or planned on being Alpha.Damn you for dying, Lennox.
